THE KINGDOM

PART-1

By Sandeep AddankiPublished about a year ago 3 min read

There was a King and his son, the prince. Despite being one of the wealthiest heirs in the world, the prince was dangerously bored. How did he fill his time? By imagining himself as a detective and solving "mysteries" throughout the palace. This meant that the prince meddled in everybody's business and concocted completely absurd stories about his adventures, but who would dare argue with him? He was the King's son and technically held their lives in his hands. However, the Prince was not without friends. His most faithful and trusted companion, Nanook, had raised the prince from infancy and provided even more care when the King passed away suddenly due to illness. The kingdom was managed by all the stakeholders and higher-ranking individuals who assisted the King in his rule, and Nanook acted as a guide and advisor to the prince. Although he loved the prince as his own family, he did not approve of the prince’s actions and the way he meddled in everyone's affairs in the kingdom. Most people in the kingdom did not think highly of the prince’s behavior this thing Nanook not much liked, but he refused to listen to Nanook's attempts to persuade him otherwise.

One day, Nanook's sister disappeared, and he pleaded with the prince for help to identify her and bring back to him but he tried many things those did not helped him much. The prince, who believed himself to be almost invincible, took on the case. However, when he left the palace for the first time in his life to follow the clues he was like not having any idea where this will go and what kind of things he may need to face in future all his aim was to get back her to see happy faces on the most trusted and loved one he currently having after his father, he discovered that life outside the palace was far from idyllic. Religious factions vied for power, political groups struggled for influence in the King's ear, and the desperate poor and greedy rich all fought, turning the area around the palace into a chaotic mixture of blood and sweat. In a short period, the prince lost his money, his jeweled sword, and his beard - and without these things, the palace guards did not recognize him and refused to let him back inside. The prince’s only hope was to wait until Nanook returned in the morning, as he was sure his old caretaker would recognize him. However, to do so, he had to survive the night in the crime-ridden streets, where roving gangs, packs of wild dogs, and desperate thugs saw him as an easy target. It turned out that Nanook's sister had been kidnapped and was likely in the hands of smugglers, and the prince had until dawn to rescue her and himself.

It was nearly midnight, and fear crept into the prince’s mind. Suddenly, he was attacked, and he didn't know why or what was happening. He attempted to explain that he had no money, but they did not stop. He then fled, but two masked individuals chased him relentlessly. Eventually, he managed to escape with injuries, having also tried to fight back, but they were too strong. Even though they were wounded, they continued to pursue him with all their might, and he barely survived the night.

The next morning, the first thing the prince had to do was regain his power by returning to the palace so he could act. He began investigating what had occurred to him the previous night and to Nanook's sister. However, he was pressed for time, so he had to move quickly. Nanook finally identified the prince, and he returned home and began investigating, but he encountered only dead ends.......
