Munch, munch, crunch, munch, snap

Narrator: "In the land of Garden Beautiful, sounds weave a parade of the amazing, bizarre, and curious. Some sounds are haunting, and eerie which stir the imagination into fright and fear. Others are like a melody of tranquility, gently arousing the senses with their serene beauty."

Chomp, munch, slurp, munch

Narrator: "Tonight, we enter into the Wild Kingdom, a realm where flora, funga, biota, and foliage come together in the expression of life. Prepare yourself for a caravan through the unseen and the unforgettable, where every rustle and whisper tells a story.”

Wally's Ascent

“Ahh, the sun is finally setting. I can come out of hiding and feed my hungry body.”

In his wave-like motion, Wally crawled out from the underside of the sweet milkweed flowers to greet the starry night sky.

“Ummm… I love the sugary smell of the flower. It sends me into a psychedelic euphoric delight. Such is the perfect balanced breakfast,” Wally thought as his salivary glands shifted into overtime.

He went directly to work as he slid down the stem of the milkweed plant to the leaves. When he reached the leaves his hair color and pattern blended perfectly so that he could hide and safely enjoy his meal of fresh tasty milkweed leaves. (Anybody up for milkweed shakes after the show? 🤣)

“Ahhh… so delicious. What a wonderful treat. I can sit here all day and eat the entire leaf.”

It was a comfortable warm night, Wally enjoyed his feast while he chomped holes into the leaf savoring the satisfying juicy flavor, and sweet aroma.

“I am so unbelievably hungry. I can't stop. This leaf is delicious. But it's not going to be enough for me.”

Wally began scouting for the next perfect leaf as he continued to chomp on the current one. He spotted a huge shiny leaf just below and enthusiastically proceeded to it next.

“This is heaven I am going to eat all night and keep on eating and eating and eating and eating. I don't know what's come over me. Why am I so hungry?”

The March

March, march, hup, two, three, four, march, stamp, march, march, hup, two, three, four

Wally became frightened as he felt the leaf, he was sitting on, tremble. “What's going on?”

Wally scanned the area, and his heart raced as he spotted an army of ants marching with military precision. They moved along with an unstoppable force.

March, march, stamp, stamp, hup, two, three, four, march

This sight frightened Wally. “Oh no, I've gotta move. I've gotta move quickly before they see me. They will devour me.”

After all the food he ate Wally's body grew strong and he was able to move lickety split. He cleverly snuck under the leaf and hid.

Once the threat of the ants surpassed Wally slithered back on top of that leaf and continued chomping.

The Chrysalis / Macho Man / Muscles

“I'm feeling great. I'm energized. I feel my body growing. It's so hot my body. Muscles growing. I feel like a macho, macho man. Tighter, tighter. I'm exploding. It's a chrysalis, a metamorphosis.”

In an act of wonder, Wally's muscles burst through his skin, and he gained the appearance of His Royal Highness Wallace's stately orange, fluttering wings.

The Monarch

“I am a Monarch of celestial grace,

With wings of gold in shimmering lace.

A regal sovereign, I reign supreme,

Beware, for my touch holds a venomous gleam.”

The King / The Epilogue

The story ends with Wallace the Monarch, the King, the Leader living a long and glorious life of six months. He roamed this Earth gracing each garden with his Royal beauty.

How great, to feel so bursting with strength!

  • WOW. Very well-wrought, Rick! I was just discussing with a friend the other day how amazing it is that Monarchs make it all the way up here to Indiana from Mexico! I thought out loud to my companion: that this fragile creature somehow survives such a long, arduous trek is a testament to the true nature of strength!
