As Malcom arose to get ready for school, he peered out his window and saw a news crew that was looking around, looking up and down, and he wondered out loud, “What was it they’d found”? Not four seconds later he was to the elevator with a coat in hand, and not the slightest of plans. As he started descending his mind got to pretending, he was floating on down from the clouds. When he finally reached the lobby and realized there was nobody, he scurried outside and to his surprise, while he was catching his breath, he turned and looked to the left, and there he saw the icicle, bigger than his tricycle. It stretched on down from the roof to the ground and all the people around weren’t making a sound. He soon bumped into Norman, who was the building’s doorman, and he said, nice and loud, “Don’t get lost in this crowd!”. Malcom gave him a nod but still found it rather odd that he was allowed to proceed, seeing as he was three.

As the sirens started wailing the crowd began curtailing, and out of nowhere came a Captain asking about what happened. The police went around, but not a soul knew how, what, when, or why, some said “It fell out the sky”. How it came to be remained a mystery, but the talk of the town was how to get it down. There was some sort of chatter that there was a nice long ladder that could be used to climb right up the side. From there they’d use a laser and turn the ice to vapour, “Oh nothing could be safer”, said Mr. Baker. Who was one of those ones that you don’t know what he does but he wears nice clothes wherever he goes. It wasn’t until later, Malcom heard from his neighbour that the laser wasn’t true and no one knew what to do.

To be precautionary the police called in the military and in walked the very merry, tall Commander Harry. Harry started shouting out, for ideas on how to go about, preventing the obstruction from causing the tower’s destruction. Suggestions came and they ranged from the extremely strange to the half insane. The mayor said, “It could be a sculpture, and if the tourists like it we’ll make a dollar”, but the people yelled, “No, that thing has to go”. The crowd suggested a helicopter aptly named the ice chopper to give it a whack and get the tower back. There was some concern as things transpired, about the tall tower spire, and whether or not it could support an astronaut.

It was during this commotion that Malcom got the notion to run inside and give something a try. So up he went, not stopping for a moment, he didn’t consider slowing, he just kept on going. He ran like a mouse into the family’s penthouse, and exceptionally fast, began drawing a bath. He turned to his right and with all of his might he pushed opened the window and said, “Lookout below!”. He hopped in the bath and started to splash, just like he had done in the past, he was having a blast. Acting like a river otter, out the window went the water, the ice began melting the more water he was pelting. It didn’t take long before it was all gone and the building was saved before it had caved.

On the news he saw the aftermath, of people talking about the boy in the bath, and they couldn’t keep from laughin’, that was the last thing to happen.

His parents said, “That’s quite the story, but you were here all day, we’re sorry, now it’s time for bed, goodnight sleepy head”.
