The Chamber

They gathered in the chamber and looked high above them; their uneasiness suddenly vanished. What overtook them at this moment was not what they had chosen but was given to them, a gesture. They thought among themselves. They were unsure why they were given this gift and didn't believe they deserved it. However, it stood given to them. They bowed and accepted.

Months passed, and many from the chamber that day began imagining what else they could get. They decided to go back to see what other fortunes they could receive.

As they made their way, uneasiness began to overtake a few within the group; they ran away from their companions, fleeing into the distance; those who remained stood puzzled by their departure. Gazing at one another, they shrugged their shoulders and continued.

Arriving at the building to the chamber, they noticed a guard standing firm at the entrance. It took them by surprise. None in the group remembered a guard before. "What do you want here?" The guard politely asked the bewildered-looking group. "We want to enter," a few said in unison; the rest stood in bewilderment. "I understand," the guard replied. The guard, moving to the side of the door, waved the group in.

"We're here!" A member of the group shouted; the guard sneered behind them. "Quiet. Show some respect," another group member whispered. As the group made their way through the hall, excitement overtook them, making them shiver and shake. A couple of them even began to dance. "Is everybody ready?" A member of the group uttered. Calming the rest down, they nodded approvingly, with one repeating to herself quietly what the other member had just said. Upon entering the chamber, they suddenly dropped to their knees, their hands stretching towards the high ceiling. "We've come for more!" A group member yelled. "Yes, more! Give us everything you have. We can take it!" Another one cried, his voice echoing around the room. As they continued to scream, the once heavily lit chamber descended into utter darkness. "What is this? What's happening?" Someone yelled. "This is what you wanted," a voice bellowed in a muddy tone. "This isn't what we wanted. We came here for more blessings," a quivering voice responded in the darkness. "And, a blessing you shall receive," the muddy-toned voice replied. A thunderous sound began to roar. "Make it stop!" Someone cried, "Yes! Please! Make it stop!" Another yelled. "This is what you deserve," the muddy voice boomed. "This way! Follow me!" A familiar voice called from a distant glow; bewildered, the group ran towards the glowing voice. "This is what you deserve! What you deserve! Deserve!" Thundered everywhere as they ran.

As they scrambled closer to the friendly voice, they were amazed; it was the guard they met at the entrance. "Quickly, this way!" The guard motioned emphatically with his hands. As they made their way into the glow, they found themselves once again in the hall. "What was that?" A couple of confused group members quizzed anyone who was listening." "No time!" The guard whooped, gesturing to them to keep following his lead. Sprinting through the hall as fast as they could, they arrived at the door they used to enter the building. The guard, fumbling for a key inside his pocket, upon finding it, waved the key in front of the door, which then proceeded to open by itself. "Out, now!" The guard shrieked at the group as he stepped to the side, letting them out. Running into the street, a group member looked back and noticed the guard bowing in their direction, the door slowly closing while he bowed. "Never again," a voice reverberated around the street, the sky turning grey from blue.
