Variety matters ya know.” Shawn concluded.

My Feet Are Tingling
The coast of Japan is no stranger to seismic activity. There have been numerous earthquakes over the years and many lives have been lost in them. Being in the “ring of fire” places the island nation in the most active volcanic area of the world. On March 11, 2011, the fourth largest earthquake ever recorded and Japan’s largest, struck and moved the island of Honshu more than eight feet. The giant Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant is disabled and an emergency evacuation of millions of people is called for. The tsunami, caused by the earthquake, washes over the walls of the power plant and further destruction and devastation creates untold misery for the people of this small country. Radiation in immeasurable amounts flowed into the Pacific Ocean, inundating the Eastern currents off the Japanese coast with radioactive Cesium 137. These currents are very turbulent and quickly, within four months, diluted the radioactivity to tolerable levels. But not quickly enough.

Before Friday. Runner-Up in The Unhappy Ending Challenge.
The camera flashed again in the kitchen, whitening the room. Each burst caught on the same things: the chair on its side, the cupboard door left hanging open, the dark shine on the tiles, and the heel of Noah’s bare foot turned awkwardly toward the hall. Then the light went out and the kitchen fell back into its yellow overhead dimness, smaller and more ordinary than it had any right to be.

Cancer Resignation. Content Warning.
Day 1 Walter woke up on Tuesday morning and knew he was running late. The sun was slanting in the window at a different angle, he could hear his wife downstairs in the kitchen, and a TV playing somewhere in the house. Looking over at his alarm, he saw it was 8 AM. Grabbing the clock, he chunked it to the wall, busting it. This was the third morning in a row that it hadn’t gone off at 6 when he had it set for.

They Watch Everything
They Watch Everything I knew I didn’t belong there the moment the door closed behind me. It wasn’t gentle or welcoming, it sounded final, like something had been decided for me without my say. His family were already in the room, watching me before I even had time to take in where I was. Their eyes weren’t warm or curious, they were measuring and judging, as if I had already failed something I didn’t even understand.

The Roommate
You always think you know someone until you live with them. Kayla and I had been friends for almost 5 years. Worked together for 4 and lived in the same apartment complex for 2. We drove to work together and always hung out on our days off. So when our leases ended around the same time, it was only natural that we would get a place together. We already saw each other almost every day, living together would be amazing… or so I thought.

Shadow Lullaby
I had thought to kill the "evil" that was in front of me. I had grossly overestimated my own abilities. It stood above me, this nightmare made flesh. My weapons lay scattered or broken all around me, with any potentially useful pieces just out of my reach.
