Virgo’s Child
Present Day Tyra St. James awoke in a cold sweat. She had just had the same dream again. It was the one where she was someone else and she was running for her life. As she sat up in bed, she felt a large male hand on her stomach. She glanced around only to find herself in a strange motel room. A pair of handcuffs was lying on the nightstand, and strange clothes were scattered everywhere. Great, just great, she thought to herself. She knew she had to escape. Taking the handcuffs, she handcuffed the strange man to the headboard, before digging around for her clothes. All she found however were leather pants, a leather halter-top, a leather jacket, and a pair of knee high boots that all were too small to be his. She was still digging for her bra and panties, when she heard him stir. Deciding against them, she dressed quickly and slipped out the door. She only paused long enough to leave a note and the keys to the handcuffs on the desk. As she slipped out, she noticed his jacket. The name Bubba was embroidered on the left pocket. Judging by the clothes and the Harley outside he was a biker, Ty just could not believe her luck. If she ever made it of it this in one piece, she knew her best friend Christina would never allow her to live it down.

The Swirl: Chapter One
The night was quiet and chill as I stepped off the midnight train that had just brought me home from a very long shift at the Trayton Organization in Trayton Fields. My work was top secret as we studied the mysterious ongoings of the universe, including what was known as 'Black swirls.' The company knew they existed, though we weren't allowed to announce it to the world because Mr. Stevenson, the boss was afraid that it would cause unwanted panic in the streets. I, on the other hand, had never witnessed these swirls as he called them, and neither had my colleagues who worked night and day to unravel the weird mysteries of this universe.

Season of Flame
The fall returned swiftly, its great change sweeping over the land like a spreading fire. With its coming came the shortening of days and the darkening of nights. A coldness swept through the air and grey, unsettled clouds filled the sky. The vibrant, life assuring greenery of the summer, slowly began melting away into equally rich hues of burnt orange, red and yellow. The aptly named Season of Flame was here again.

Shard Bound
The last embers of a lonely fire flickered in the morning breeze. Sol was still low in the sky, just barely peeking above the horizon. Even so the solar sphere illuminated the grasslands. In the morning light the owner of the campfire saw his destination far in the distance; Lucent Caverns. Legends stemming from the local villages told of a dragon and its foul minions who lived deep within the cave structure. There may have been some truth to those rumors, but Orion was headed there for a more urgent affair. Even at this range he felt the malevolence emanating from that direction; the slow pulse of something aberrant seeping its way into the world, and perverting the natural state. It was his duty as Magi to correct this imbalance.

Ouroboros. Runner-Up in Christopher Paolini's Fantasy Fiction Challenge.
1. The last thing Leander could have possibly anticipated was the burden of a human — and a human child, no less. When he left the Old Gates in search of the priestess in the valley, he only meant to bring her magic back into the Otherworld, not find a child at his feet. The deities were becoming restless and hungry, and if magic wasn’t readily available the only option would be to harvest souls. For centuries, Leander was successful in maintaining peace at the Old Gates, and he had no interest in a child imprinting on him. Especially during such a turbulent time.
