The Haunting Cypress:
The bell rings shrilly and loudly through the halls of Idyllwild High signaling our release from this teenage-rage-fueled asylum. I weave my way around idiots shoving each other into lockers and just barely dodge the hooting-and-hollering football players pummeling through the halls. I open my locker, and a pile of muck covered leaves spills out of my locker and onto my boots. Roars of laughter echo all around me and a squirrely, high-pitched voice cuts through the noise from right behind me.

The Day the Bank Cameras Blinked Twice

The Last Person in the Archive
By the time Mara understood what the archive was for, most of it had already been destroyed. Not burned. Not in some singular act dramatic enough to provoke grief. It had vanished the way important things often do: under reviews, budget notes, transition plans, cheerful language about modernization. Shelf by shelf. Room by room. One harmless administrative phrase after another.

Nobody Wins. Top Story - April 2026.
Jack is a newspaper man, or an "ink stained wretch" as his uncle, also a newspaper man, used to refer to those in their profession. Before that, he was something else-something he didn't like being. He did bad things for bad people. Not as bad as most who did them, but worse than some. Certainly worse than you or I. It was a life he'd been trying to leave behind for a while now, but he chose the wrong career path for that. Now, he tiptoes the line between honest reporter and sold-out hack, but it's better than being dropped in the Alleghany with a lead weight tied to your ankles.
