Blood Money
Jesse watched the clock on the dashboard. 2:47 a.m. His hands gripped the steering wheel so tightly, they ached against the worn leather. Beside him, in the passenger seat laid a plain black duffel bag containing two burner phones, a key card, and an envelope filled with fifty thousand dollars freshly printed on crisp hundred dollar bills.

The Last Command
August 18. 43 degrees Celsius. Sweltering heat, 50 km/h winds and a hazy red hue of smoke filled the Okanagan air. News and weather reports reverberated a similar sentiment on the hour, every hour: An uncontrollable wildfire near Myra, British Columbia is the worst the Okanagan has ever experienced throughout it's history. The fire's blaze incinerated flora and fauna alike as well as any animals that may not have been able to escape it's hellish flames. Animals that did escape had the freewill to do so - unlike, Copper. She had no way to flee nor the desire to disobey her master.

My Last Call. Top Story - August 2026.
Tuesday nights were always the same. Small groups of people meandered in and found a table or a booth. Individuals normally migrated to a stool at the bar where they knew Ollie. The bartender was always available to engage in a friendly conversation or to lend a sympathetic ear. Friday and Saturday nights were too busy for him to socialize, but as for the rest of the week, he never ignored a customer’s need for a drink and good chat.
