A Curse to Break; Chapter 8
The next few days pass without any excitement. I sit silently in the back of the covered wagon as we move during the day and at night, the leader now forces me to sit out by the campfire until I'm yawning. I still don't know where they're taking me. I can't muster up the courage to ask where I'm being taken; not that they were likely to give me an answer anyway. My dread grows with each passing day. I can't help but wonder if I am actually being taken anywhere. They could be taking me in circles for all I knew. Either way, the dread continues to grow. Why me? If this 'captain' had done his research, he'd know I was a useless captive. My family wouldn't pay much for me.

Hugh's Bris. Content Warning.
Forty-seven-year-old upper middle class lousy lover and excellent writer Hugh sits on a skinny white chair and grits his teeth and grins and bears it, pretending his skull beneath all that flesh and muscle and blood is just a skull. Can Death die? I am not dying, I am death, Hugh doesn't say out loud, so she can't kill me, skinny little hardened piece of brie that she is, Loretta, forty-six, not a day over thirty-six, babbling incessantly, as usual, ad nauseum, Hugh's personal mausoleum, his penance for half a life of selfishness, he tells himself. He knows he needs to be around people more, needs people, needs to be seen with them if he's to be accepted for who he is, forty-seven, lousy lover, excellent writer. So he sits on the skinny white chair and listens to the skinny pale Loretta and pretends not to notice that all mastication is delayed micturition. The Chablis at Chateaux Cher is awful, simply awful.

A Friend In Need
I'm tied to a large stone chair one might call a throne, surrounded by large creatures of indertiminate species. Indeterminate only because I can't fully see them. They are lurking in shadows. Either way, this might be my final resting place if our plan doesn't work. Their leader, Dimitri Arakova, sits across from me in a throne as well. His is gilded and plush. Mine is hard rock with channels along the arms and seat to guide bodily fluids away to a drain in the floor that leads to who knows where.

The Terrible Horror in the Beautiful Forest
In a world not too far from ours, there was a forest so beautiful it felt like a dream. The trees were tall and graceful, with leaves that shimmered in the sunlight. The air smelled sweet like jasmine flowers, and the birds sang the most cheerful songs. But this forest held a secret a terrible one.
