Suspended
“You know, I’m not really a Damien Hirst fan… but this is impressive,” Jeremy the shapeshifter overheard someone saying as he studied the five-meter-long display case before him. Preserved in formaldehyde was a tiger shark, it’s jaws open, body suspended as if it could start surging forward, nose bumping into the glass at any moment. It was impressive, he thought, raising his eyes to look through the green tinted glass at the other fundraiser attendees.

Of Winds and Waves
If you saw Xander Siklon at school, you probably wouldn’t look twice. Sure his one stormy grey eye and one electric blue eye might strike you at first, but you’d get used to them. Sure he may be rather fast and jump rather high, but he was no Usain Bolt. And even if he was, he almost never ran unless being pursued by bullies. He spent most of his time nose deep in books. He was just an average sixteen year old boy.

A Protected Escape

Starboard Hearts
The moonlight finally escaped through the clouds and caused the water to glisten in its stolen light. The stars shone down on the dock like a myriad of watchful, gate keeping eyes, as a group of kids scurried across towards the water. Two of them jumped off the dock disturbing the tranquil waters, while the rest of them threw backpacks full of supplies into a nearby boat.

To Any Depths
To Any Depths Karl maneuvered his commercial fishing boat onto his go-to contour line and slowed the vessel to set the gear. It rained lightly, but the water was smooth. He glanced behind to watch his two deck hands send out the buoys that started the beginning of the longline. It was halibut season. After they had started running the bait out, he wandered down to the deck to check if everything was OK or if his crew needed anything.

Por el camino de la caléndula
Waking up with a stretch and a yawn, I find that it’s still night out. Sometimes I think my body is trying to sabotage me by depriving me of sleep, but jokes on it, I’m just gonna get a drink of water and head back to bed to get some needed rest before work. Removing the blanket, I lift my head from my comfy pillow and precede to step onto the floor. That’s when I start to feel something, not the comfy roughness of my carpet, but a soft texture, like I’m stepping in a bundle of silky cloth. I look down found my feet in the midst of marigold petals, and then allow my eyes to follow a straight line of the reddish-orange flower out my bedroom door.

Under the Waves
The ocean was calm, no wind or rain to whip the sea into angry, roiling waves. The sun, shining brightly from its lofty perch, was unimpeded by clouds, warming the ground beneath my feet. The day, so beautiful and clear, felt like a cruel insult. Shouldn’t it be raining, or at least overcast, on the day I chose to I kill myself?

The Peach Tree
An old man was seated behind a chair as he typed away at an interface. Behind him, a floating disc about an inch in height kept recording the events of what was transpiring.
