The Keepers
There weren’t always dragons in the Valley. There weren’t always ships in the Sea, either, but no one bothered much about that. Ships were useful, and if they drifted in from beyond the Edge, no one was going to complain. Even the battered ones could provide materials or kindling. Some were in good enough shape to sail. The rest simply crowded together over the years, catching and linking and moving as one on the gentle waters. Some said that the floating Village of Rusenflyte created itself, and the villagers came later. Just where some of those villagers came from—well, perhaps there weren’t always humans in the Fae Realm, either. But, neither were there always ships in the Sea. Nor, apparently, dragons in the Valley.

The Ones Who Hunt
There weren’t always dragons in the Valley. At least, there hadn’t been for as long as any written record on parchment could tell. There were plenty of pictures though, ancient paintings on old cave walls that showed huge wings, long spiked tails and torrents of fire. No one knew why the dragons left. Some thought perhaps the valleys of their gentle mountains just got too small for them. Perhaps the food became too scarce or the winters too harsh.

Tales of Zemmera:
There weren’t always dragons in the valley. There was once a time where my floating island in the sky was home to only one dragon. I used my power to lift the island away from the mainlands. The Island is massive with its own mountain and beautiful waterfalls that lead into its many woodlands. All its beauty aside, its most important purpose was to serve as a getaway for myself and a few other races to avoid the ongoing conflict below. The dragons beneath me all either wished to rule the world, or protect all the beauties which the world had to offer. Finding no peaceful solution, they caused chaos across the land destroying so many different races entirely, and bringing the dragon population itself down to a mere handful. I did not watch the horror with my eyes, but I could feel it both in vibrations caused from battle, and a certain sixth sense of pain caused by the mass loss of life. Time went by and some of the few races I had saved from the chaos had built themselves structures to live in, farms and pastures to feed themselves, and a temple where they would go to worship me as their savior. As the only one who could fly above the island I could see that I truly had saved them. Sometimes I would visit their temple and tell them stories of power even higher than my own. Whenever they would bring offerings to me, I would return the offerings back to the people in secret. One day while I was in the temple bringing knowledge to the people, I heard the subtle vibrations of a dragon beating its wings in the skies above my island. I went outside the temple telling everyone from the town to stay inside. I looked into the sky and saw a shadow flying through the clouds. Our eyes locked against each other as I walked into the forest and away from the temple. The trees cut away our gaze, but I could still hear the dragon circling above me. It wasn't long before I reached a clearing in the trees where our eyes locked again and the shadow descended from the sky. It hit the ground hard pushing leaves into the air and leaving a small crater in the ground for each of its four legs. He used his long neck as a guide as he approached me slowly until we were face to face with each other.

The Breath of Death
There weren't always dragons in the Valley. But once we brought them inside our walls this became their home. They once raged in far off lands, blistering their winters with their flames, scorching the earth until ash fell from the sky, replacing the snow that capped the lands. In their wake, nothing grew, water was scarce, and no life was able to thrive.

There weren't always dragons in the Valley...
There weren't always dragons in the Valley. As a matter of fact, there weren’t many dragons anywhere near where humans lived. The kept themselves to themselves in the mountains and, apart from the odd bone-chilling screech and a few missing sheep when their diet tired of wild boar, most people forgot they were even there.

The Sword of Souls
There weren't always dragons in the Valley. At least, that was what Rebane’s grandmother had told him, but she was well known by the people of Hythe for her fanciful tales and ridiculous stories. As a small boy, Rebane had sat at his grandmother’s feet and listened with awe as she described the swift might of the Elves, the powerful wingbeats of the Fae, and the immense strength of the Fenrir. She had guided his imagination through hidden caves, blue lagoons, and over the edge of the tallest mountains. Once, he had believed it all, but now, he was almost a man, and it was time he stopped believing in fairy tales.

Dragon Rift
There weren’t always dragons in the valley. Legend had it that they were the first creatures to appear through the rift, storming through a ring of fire shortly after the event horizon had formed over the valley terrifying the world. Life as we knew it came to an end.

D.R.A.G.O.N
Chapter 1 There weren’t always dragons in the Valley. I had heard of them before from Father. Old tales about winged beast that breathe fire. Who would have thought that I’d be able to see them for real? From this position on the summit, I could see them squirming down below. They were huge monstrous beasts. Nothing I could have imagined; completely different from all other animal life we’d documented. There were three…four…six of them down below. Each one a mass of raw power and ferocity. They had arrived three days ago. At first, it was just the one. I assumed it was just a large animal not typically found in this region, but after some subtle interrogation of Father and Mother, I had determined that this wasn’t any creature that we had any consistent information about.

The Only Thing That Stops a Bad Guy With a Gun Is a Dragon
There weren't always dragons in the Valley. It was a difficult decision to make, but we really had no choice, did we? We had to protect our children somehow. I understand why people might object. But it's just the way I was raised.

Faith in the Valley
There weren’t always dragons in the valley. They once ruled the highest mountaintops. They soared freely through the skies and nested comfortably in their mountaintop lairs. Up close sightings of these majestic creatures in the valley were unheard of. Sadly, those days ended when a most vile sorceress, Gruzelda, changed all of our lives forever. She wielded the most powerful black magic any of us had ever witnessed before. She cast a spell, born from the depths of this evil darkness, banishing all of the dragons from atop the mountains to the valleys down below. They were powerless against her wickedness. We all were. Little did we know it, but banishing the dragons to the valley was merely the beginning of Gruzelda’s villainous tirade. Things vastly got worse than any of us could have ever imagined in a million years.
