There weren’t always dragons in the Valley. It wasn’t until the Stockclad army pushed north into the continent of Droclor under the banner of a holy crusade, building garrisons and taking over the northern isle. In order to fund their holy campaign, the Stockland army started raiding the dragon’s mountain holds hoping for vast riches and mounds of treasure, all to build their growing empire. Of course, this forced the fleeing dragons to the lands of the south, and into the Valley of the wind.

Death's Grasp
There weren't always dragons in the Valley. Most of civilization thought the time of dragons had passed, and perhaps it had. As time moved forward, the world of Capcreaton had changed greatly. Once, many years ago, dragons had been as much of a common sight to the natives of the planet. The historical texts deem the last official dragon to have died several hundred years ago. No exact year was ever recorded for their extinction, although there have been scores of theories.

The Loving Menace
There weren’t always dragons in the Valley and my Skies, do I miss the days before they arrived. These slimy reptiles have become a nuisance to the airways, traipsing through the clouds with no regard for lanes or those around them. Albeit, broom riders and pterocentaurs and phoenixes and pixies may not make for the most cautious of flyers. But at least we’re defensive!

Here, There be Dragons
"There weren't always dragons in the valley," Simeon whispered softly to his daughter Sage and gripped her hand. The storm was raging outside their weathered hovel, a sanctuary, but in the distance they could still hear the roar of a lurking monster. "What happened?" she whispered almost imperceptibly. They were huddled, hunched down away from the windows in the dark. Only the moonlight on the wooden floor created any visibility in the one room shelter. They were close enough that she could see her father's breath hanging in the air as he began "Time happened."

Dragons Don't Drink Tea
CHAPTER 1. There weren't always dragons in the valley, but there has always been an ugly goat. You see, here in Gnome Valley two things have always been certain: Gnomes lived here with our pointy little hats and suspenders, and we were home to the kingdom's one and only "Ugly Goat Contest!"

Cursed Inheritance
There weren’t always dragons in the valley. Before they’d arrived and taken over it had belonged to the humans, split up amongst the kingdoms and shared fairly. A prosperous land, it provided most of the farmlands and trees, and no matter the weather or situation it always produced beautiful fruits and vegetables. There was never famine. Never starving children or families who had to sleep at night with empty bellies and sorrow filled hearts.

The Dragoncore
“There weren't always dragons in the Valley.” His voice was low and raspy, weathered by decades of smoke inhalation. To my father, this was a badge of honor. Evidence of the years he’d spent in service. But as I grew older, I came to understand the darker truth. An inevitability as sure as the East Wind chipping away at Mount Reissus – that with duty, there is always sacrifice. I didn’t realize until later that he had in fact had already paid the ultimate price.

The Wyvern and The Dragons
“There weren't always dragons in the Valley.” I wiped a tear from my niece Kya’s face before tucking her stuffed animal under her arm and leading her away from the pile of embers she once called home. “When we were kids, the village had a festival at least once a month. We’d go home sick from all the sweets we ate and your grandmother would have peppermint tea waiting for us."

Dragon Riders
“There weren’t always dragons in the valley,” thought Jack. “Nor were there many who allowed riders,” Fie said as they sped through the clouds. This treasure haul was a small one, but rewarding. It felt good to be apprenticed to a Dragon Master even if the lessons were not held regularly. It made it all the better to realize he had been entrusted with such a daring deed as going to the treasure-filled chasm. Mind you a person had to know where and what to look to find it. Notwithstanding the treasures a person could find–not everyone dared to go there–unless they had a halfway decent dragon. And Fierra was just that.

The Mirror Guard (chapter 5)
Five: Seven Days in the Stark MRS. SHIMMYSHANKS LOOKED LIKE A SKELETON WITH SKIN STRETCHED OVER HER BONES. She laid draped over the unicorn’s back, clearly looking uncomfortable, but too sick to care. Eva couldn’t stand to look at her. She thought Eke felt similarly, as he charged ahead of them all, pressing through the knee-high snow. He moved with an angry determination that wasn’t going to spawn anything good. Eva knew this, but wasn’t sure how to comfort him. Nothing she could say would make this situation better. She held onto the false hope that getting to the bunker would get Mrs. Shimmyshanks the help that she needed. The faster the better.
