The Man in the Black Coat
It was getting late on Sunday, and Jacob Waknosky had been working since eight. His boss had called him in on his day off because another employee was sick. It was against the law for Jacob to say no to his boss because enough pro-capitalist extremists had gotten elected to office to make what they called 'pro business' laws. This made it very difficult to be an employee, but businesses were thriving. The government made it illegal not to have a job, so everybody worked, even those with severe disability’s. Have you ever seen somebody with no arms try to mine for coal with a pickaxe in his mouth? Jacob had, and it sickened him. To make matters worse, they had converted everything to solar a decade prior, making coal obsolete.

The Drake
Kieren wiped the sweat off his face with a blistered hand. It was unrelenting, and he never felt so useless. As if on cue, a deep, guttural scream rang through the forest. He looked up at his cabin at the edge of the woods and sighed. He grabbed another hunk of wood, set it carefully on the stump, raised his heavy axe, and split the wood into two smaller sizes. He brushed them aside and reached for another. He had been chopping wood since before sunrise, and almost all the upcoming winter’s wood was chopped.

The Dragon Lost to the World
Ashes rained down from the red soaked sky. The Alpha star setting in the North while the Minor star rose in the South, both barely visible through the hazy pollution of Kronsphere. Trees still smoldering, crackle with new life, remnants of the fourth Great Burn.

The Silver Dragon and the Flower Girl
Mazril had been wandering this world for many years. He had done so long enough that he knew what to expect. Humans were rather protective of their younglings, enough so that they didn’t let them venture far out of sight, leading to his stunned reaction as he stared down at a rather small human.

Gift
{Ravinn, One} Thud. A tremor laced the ground, heavy and powerful, enough to wake me from my dozing. I was turned on my side, curled and filthy, with tear stains streaked across my face. Hours upon hours of sobbing had reduced me to nothing more but the frightened infant I was, weak from my own cries.

It's All Hours
Varvale was the name of the forest. Autumn was a dawn rolling over the canopy from the inside and working its way out. A pond lay beneath it. It wore the sky like a mask. Mostly blue, the pale of peace. The underbrush was bearded with leaves, branches, shrubs, dirt, lichen, and moss. The dead stuck out like bits of food in that beard. They’d been camped next to the pond.

Shadow & Scales
It was twilight in the forest of dragons. Time for Basal to hunt. The green dragon stretched his wings in the clearing. He looked back to see his mate Sylva, her wings sheltering three new hatchlings nuzzled up to her warm belly, bits of shell clinging to their lanky frames. Basal thrummed with pride and delight.
