Time
The portal closes behind the warrior, and he looks up to see the dragon staring back at him. A brute of a man, eyes blue as an ocean staring into the grey, watery eyes of an old dragon until finally, the dragon lets out a long breath. The warm air was blowing in the man’s direction along with volcanic winds, the smell of sulfur hanging in the air, and viscous flows of lava all around. The two stared at one another for what seemed like an eternity, silent words upon hushed lips. Finally, the dragon spoke.

Of Squirrels and Dragons
Nox kept her head low to the earth, kicking up the scent of dirt and pine, and sure enough, her prey. A branch crack and skittering to the east confirmed that she was on the right track. Tucking her wings flat against her back she slipped down the embankment the trickling river had carved into the forest floor. The light was low this deep inside the forest, her forest, but her keen senses kept her on the trail. No prey had ever escaped her grasp.

Sometimes Mother didn’t want to wake-up. She’d lay catatonic for days atop mounds of heat-twisted, marbleized gold, silver, and gems. The Scaleless
Is that the glow of another village burning? The end of so many lives, for what? Greed? Religion? Or the most atrocious, because of the tones of their skin. I will never understand these horrible beasts. The scaleless. What cruel god made them? What cruel god could have left them to their own devices? They deserve to be abandoned, maybe that is what their god did. Who would blame them? I sure wouldn't.

Spell of Flame & Sea
The fading embers of daylight reflected in the young ones eyes, captivating Drayce. Breath hung heavy in the air around them as the child peered at him, quizzically. Urgent rustling of leaves, angry voices growing louder, the breath slowly released from his lungs. Only then did the little being slowly blink, and a ribbon of fear laced through the angelic face. He had to act quickly if he was to save her.

Those Who Devour
From where he sat upon the ridgeline, Falsrax could see everything inside the valley he presided over. Deer grazed in a small meadow to the south, cropping the early morning grass that was undoubtedly still sweet with dew. A small stream cut through the center of the dragon’s small domain, not yet alive with the fish that would feast upon the midday insects that would laze above the water. Birds had only just begun to stir, chirping out their morning songs as they prepared to take flight and feed.

Reminiscent
CHAPTER 1 STORY TELLING Reminiscent is an annual holiday in the Ralz Realm. It is beloved and celebrated with family reunions, great feasts and most importantly, Story Telling. It is celebrated in the early fall when the air is full of the smells of ripeness and harvesting. Usually the weather is great, warm enough for those full of energy and youth to enjoy the great outdoors but not so hot that the meeting houses become uncomfortable because of all the cooking. Even if the weather does not cooperate the people of Ralz will hardly notice for it is the Reminiscent that is important. This year the weather is perfect and from every cook fire, roasting pot and clay oven come wonderful aromas of roasting beasts, boiling potatoes, yams and every other root that the cooks have found a way to make delicious. And on top of it all riding the waves of mouthwatering aromas are wonderful pies and cakes.

Zoirotia
Klepton watched the child stumble through the forest, nearly tripping over gnarled roots as they tottered over the forest floor. He kept pace with the toddler, sliding from trunk to trunk, listening intently for any hint of their parents or any other villagers coming after them as best he could in this tiny, bipedal form. But only the silence of the foliage muttered to him, the pines standing tall and dark as the sun was chased across the sky towards the horizon. Driven by the crawling darkness of night and his echoing whispers, leading the child deeper and deeper into the forest.
