The Good Dragon
The ruins of the burning village below glowed brilliant orange, lighting up the night sky. The blinding flames and acrid smoke had no effect on me. Like all dragons, I had been around fire since I could remember, and dragon or not, fire was nothing new in these parts. As long as the Dragon Wars waged, something was always burning, though no one knew if the fire was caused by humans or dragons. Neither side even knew what they were fighting for anymore; all they knew was that humans and dragons were mortal enemies.

Son of the Mountain Dragon
Hariric had seen so many things in his time alive. He’d seen little, green, fresh sprouts turn into mighty trees that survived forest fires and floods. Entire mountaintops had vanished from erosion or sprouted up from mighty earthquakes. There had been years so dry that even Hariric, who despised the rain and cold it brought with it, found himself praying to feel just a drop of it on his face. Sometimes, if Hariric sat still long enough, he could watch the moss and vines that had managed to grow on his scales continue to spread out further. However, nature hadn’t been the one that had changed the most in the centuries Hariric had dwelled on earth.

Absolom
The city of Granitport was as hospitable as it ever is, though my legs ache quite a bit more than they did on my last walk out of the city. Ten years hasn't really changed things all that much, but after one hundred and fifty years of making these little trips in my old traveling cloak the small changes really start to add up. Their understanding of magic has progressed beyond what I originally thought them capable of. I have watched this city grow from the insignificant fishing village it was so many years ago, into the blooming metropolis I see as I look back over the hills that lead to its front gates. The fresh tracks on the path I find myself on today, combined with the extra traffic stumbling through the city's main road tells me another caravan has only just arrived. Likely more scholars coming to learn new magics from the great sorcerer, Absolom, whom rumors told them was dwelling within, or traders looking to purchase whatever precious gems the city’s counsel didn't already send with the dwarves.

The First Dragon Rider
They were coming for him. They could feel it in his aching bones. They were close, gathering pace. The sound of branches cracking underneath heavy footfalls. The neighing of horses being spurred on in urgency. Faster, he had to ride faster. There was no telling He had managed to cross the border into Kalecura, escaping Venador, but the Imperial troops were keeping pace. Aldor had carried him and the child for a full day's ride and while his trusty companion would never complain, Dorian knew the beast was beginning to tire.

Nogard The Dragon
The rush of wind swept the cold air through the tree tops as Nogard eased his wings and settled into his forest. It was early, the sun just beginning to peek above the distant hillsides that edged the wonderful and ancient woodlands that the great dragon called home. Nogard, who knew most trees in this forest by name, moved his moss-colored body with exact precision. Each step was delicately placed with forethought and each talon sunk into the dirt knowing which roots lay beneath the old forest and how to avoid harming them.

Exiles. Runner-Up in Christopher Paolini's Fantasy Fiction Challenge.
A coarse rumbling came from Solbrim’s throat - a growling furnace that crackled and spat. His vision was sharp - even in the dim light of the forest - and he could clearly see the figure he pursued as it wound and dashed among the trees. However, it was not the vision of the figure that guided his flame, but rather the incessant, cackling laughter that came from its mouth.

Beware of Dragon- Dark Forest
It’s been years since one of the two-legged monsters has dared to grace my forest. The Dark Forest, they call it. Rumors abound of the place being haunted by ghosts and other more sinister things, when in reality, it’s simply where I make my home. Humans, they call themselves. Monsters is more accurate, but I digress.

Darkness Falls
The noise was barley audible; a ghost of a cry, imperceptible to human ears. Ruairc halted, hand to hilt, and listened as the wind carried the tune thru the trees. Not a man, too innocent. A second cry, louder and frightened. Weary of traps and spying eyes, Ruairc kept one hand to his hip while moving silently among fallen leaves and hanging branches. He felt most at home in the woods, not in flight like his kin. The trees kept his secrets and held no council. They were wild and free.

My adoptive dragon.
“It’s been sixteen years now. You have grown phenomenally; will you be rejoining the humans now? It is long since time for you to do so.” Although his mouth did not move, the telepathic means which Viotar spoke. Viotar is a gorgeous dragon, his smooth emerald green scales and snakey gray eyes were his most prominent features. For sixteen years this lord of the forest upon a mountain deep in Welsh territory has raised me as his own. He bestowed the name of Dara, in hopes that I would always persevere and never give up whether by his side or not.
