Sealing Wax and Other Fancy Stuff
Glittery balls of tin foil stacked to the rocky ceiling tumbling down in a shower of shine when the ocean gypsy pushes the waves, filling the cave. Frothy tendrils reaching into the darkness, pulling her collection out to sea. Even swiftly moving scales and monstrous tail cannot retrieve them all. Some are lost, adrift on the pale, moonlit bay, bobbing in the surf. Memories floating away. Perhaps it's better that way.

Franki was absolutely spot on about the Orion Portal spa. Not only did I get excellent rest and relief from my would be hangover, but I also woke up to find I’d received several other additional services. A mani/pedi cosmic style, nails on the fingers and toes matching in a lovely blue chrome with metallic glitter that seemed to swirl and move. A fresh haircut, not wildly different than what I came in with, but nicely trimmed, and with complimentary styling product that smelled absolutely divine. And unless I was much mistaken, my left collar bone, which in youth I had broken and without medical attention had healed with a bit of a notch in the middle, was now entirely notchless, as if I had never broken it at all. Considering this spa also followed the non-currency structure of many of the other establishments at the Orion Portal, that was one hell of a free spa treatment.

I can’t say with any amount of certainty what Paris, France is like in my own dimensional version of Earth. I have never been. But Paris in my dear friend Fabian’s dimension is quite a fine place to enjoy an evening of food, drink, consciousness enhancing substances and the sort of free love merriment folks in my reality would reserve for Woodstock.

“Good lord! Guess that Abby is having a rough go at learning the ropes.” I thought to myself as I set aside the well composed letter. Being fairly new to this interdimensional travel myself, I felt awful for both the Abby who sunk the truck and Bernie, who’s lovely home appears to be a vacation destination of sorts for other Abernathy’s. If I’m honest tho, I mainly felt relieved for myself. Strange and unusual tho it was for me to accidentally discover that I could will myself into other realities, at least no one broke into my house to either give me a heart attack or to destroy any of my belongings. For being a new kid at this game, at least I’ve not ruffled any feathers yet.

I was tootling along at a goodish pace across the countryside in Bernie’s zippy blue Dodge Challenger, enjoying the scenery and with a merry tra-la on my lips as it were. It being a lovely summer day and the landscape in a particularly lush and happy mood, I found my journey highly agreeable. My high spirits, I confess, were mainly due to the simple pleasure I always get from a solo drive-about and not the prospect of what awaited me at journey’s end. Not that I was enroute to my own hanging or anything grisly as that, certainly not. Merely a slight disinclination to the company I would shortly find myself in.

Greetings and Salutations Dearest Bernie: Please excuse me if I am taking a liberty by calling you Bernie. We haven’t met in the flesh, but other versions of us with whom I am friendly have referred to you as Bernie, and I do hope you and I can also be friends despite the bad news I must be the bearer of.

“There’s nothing like the sea for soothing sore nerves,” I thought to myself as I sipped a strengthening cup of morning tea. I was relaxing on the veranda, or is it a balcony? Raised type of thing, you know, full of outdoor lounge furniture and overlooking this lovely golden beach in a menacing sort of way. Having recently met myself, absolutely in the extra dimensional flesh and not metaphorically on some head shrinking doctor's chaise sofa, I had found myself stepping out of my living room and into a rather long overdue bit of respite from ye ol’ nine to five prison sentence. I wasn’t entirely sure where I was, but if I had to hazard a guess, I would presume I had dimension hopped into some version of Earth in what I imagined to be the south of France. Not that I had ever actually been to the south of France in my own version of Earth or any other for that matter, but I had absorbed enough literature and pop culture to suggest to me that this is what the south of France would look like.
