Tonya eased her back.

“She keeps reminding me of him and what he did to me,” she wailed.

“Get help! Go to therapy! Do something to get the hatred out of your heart! But don’t punish her for her father’s sins!”

“What, you hated Mike for leaving you to raise your two children,” Gracie shoved her into the past.

Gellana took a deep breath and said, “My daughter is the replica of her father. My son looks like me but has all of his father’s traits. They remind me of him every day. My children aren’t responsible for what he did to me. They will not pay for his sins.”

“Who will pay?” Gracie demands.

“He will, just like Ryan will pay for what he did to you.”

Wiping away painful tears, Gracie informs, “He is on his honeymoon in Paris with his young wife.”

“He moves on and is happy, you don’t think you deserve happiness too? It was you who left him, remember?”

She sighed heavily, shrugged her shoulders, and said, “Because he hurt me.”

Going on her knees closer to Gracie, “Both of you got hurt in your relationship. He left the hate, you didn’t. Do you know that hatred does more damage to the vessel that it is stored in, than to the object into which it is poured? Ryan remarried and is living happily ever after. That five-year-old loves you no matter how thoughtless and cruel you are to her! You are the only one in pain here!”

Her eyes popped. She wailed as more tears fell.

“What you did, Rica is threatening to get the State involved. We have been doing your job for the past six months. We cannot live for you. We do not have your heart, body, mind or soul. You will have to start living your life for yourself. I am going to take Sari for a while until you get that hate out of your damn heart. Hateful hearts can’t raise good children. Children needs to be raised with a heart of love, it’s the only way she will learn to live. Hatred can’t thrive or grow without cruelty and pain. But love can!”

“All I see when I look at her is Ryan. And I want to hurt him for what he did to me,” she explained.

“You got to move on. Ryan did when you left him. He found love and released the hate. When you eliminate the hate in your heart, come get your child!” Gellana demands.

“That was more than fifty years ago,” Supreme Court Judge Sari Malcolm, said, facing more than two thousand graduates from colleges across the country. “She never came back to get me because she couldn’t remove the hatred from her heart.”

The audience stared at her with bulged eyes, mouth agape mixed in shock.

“What happened to her?” Someone asked.

“Three days after I graduated from college at nineteen years old, she overdosed on heroin and was found naked in Central Park. She died one week later. Someone wise said, ‘Hatred does more damage to the vessel in which it is stored, than the object into which it is poured.’ I am here today because I have managed to keep hate out of my heart. My success sat on my ability to keep hate away from me.”

“You never got to see her again?” questioned another person.

“No,” Sari said nodding. “The woman who saved my life begged me, ‘Don’t hate her, don’t hate anything or anyone too much. You might become the object of your hatred.’”

Sari paused, battling her emotions as the graduates stared at her in shock.

Seconds later, composure returned, “When you go out into the world, hate, dishonesty, and failure will be three of your biggest tests. Hate is the worst of the three. It will seep deep inside your blood and find its way into your heart. It will hold you captive until you find the strength to release it. Hate harms the vessel. It will destroy the vessel, preventing you from living and adding anything valuable and beautiful to our world. Please, don’t allow hate to win. My mother did, and it took her life!”

The audience stared at her in shock!

She turned and walked toward the red curtain behind the podium and freed her long overdue tears.

Yes, hatred does more damage to the vessel that stores it. Don’t allow hatred to win. You see what is going on in our world. Hatred is the main card that’s been used to destroy humanity.

If your heart could speak, what would it say?

Is your heart filled with hate? Or is it packed with Love?

We need to bring back love. NOW!
