Sarah loved living in a small town in the middle of nowhere, but she hated the people who lived there with her. Sarah was always very different than the other kids her age. She was socially awkward, causing her to become shy and incredibly introverted, and eventually she preferred to spend her time alone with her books and her imagination rather then with the horrible, disgusting monsters that made her feel like garbage. Unfortunately, this made her an even bigger target for the school bullies. She was diagnosed with autism, which unfortunately didn’t help her to deter the bullies. She felt isolated and depressed, and wished there was something she could do to fit in and make friends.

Sarah would wake up and dread going to school. She would go to sleep and have nightmares about school. She knew that she would be teased, taunted and picked on by the bullies, who took an eldritch and sociopathic pleasure in making her life miserable. The more she suffered, the more they laughed and smiled. They turned her reality into a living hell.

One day, on a very auspicious walk, everything changed.

Sarah was walking home from school when she tripped over an ancient looking book lying in the middle of the sidewalk. She picked it up and blew off the dust from the cover, which wafted up her nose and made her sneeze. Even after she did this though, the book managed to remain dusty, as if it was covered in magical dust. She opened the book slowly, which made a loud creaking sound like a door that needed lubrication. Its pages were worn and tattered, but legible. Something was very special about this book, and Sarah's was glad it caught her eye. Her heart began to race, her veins began to pulsate, and she couldn’t read the book now. She slammed the book closed, put it in her backpack and took it home with her.

Your late. I was worried,” her mother said.

“Sorry, my legs hurt. The bullies pushed me again and I fell on some rocks,” Sarah said.

“I thought they suspended those bullies. That’s what the principal told me,” Sarah’s mother said.

“They couldn’t. The bullies parents complained and said their perfect kids were innocent little babies and would never do anything to bully me or anybody else. Like, but they did. They push and torture me every day, and call me all sorts of horrible names, from loser to stupid freak. It was an obvious lie but they threatened to sue the school if their baby angel kids got in any trouble. So they’re back and bullying. One even threw a rock at my head as I was leaving,” Sarah said and showed her mom a bruise.

Sarah’s mom asked to see the other bruises and took pictures of Sarah’s injured legs.

“Don’t worry, baby. We’re going to sue them,” Sarah’s mom said and smiled. Sarah smiled back.

“Yah, we’ll get them!” Sarah said. Sarah went upstairs to do homework.

That night, Sarah couldn’t stop reading the book. She opened it and it was a handwritten book of shadows. Sarah wondered how someone could lose such a thing, but no matter. It was hers now. She googled what a book of shadows was, and there were several pages devoted to witchcraft and spell work explaining that a book of shadows, like a grimoire, was created by a witch and used to write down all her spells. But who wrote this specific book of shadows, Sarah wondered. She flipped through the pages again, very carefully as not to rip them, and she couldn’t find a name.

“I wonder why the author wouldn’t put her name in it, just in case she loses it. No matter, you have a new home now. I’ll keep you safe, book. But what do I call you?” Sarah asked.

Then, something incredibly strange happened. The wind picked up in her room, despite no windows being open and no air conditioning, and the books pages flipped to the first page. In big font it said “Sarah’s Grimoire.”

“No way, you can hear me?” Sarah asked. A smiley face and the word yes popped up below the title.

“So cool! Who did you belong to before me?” Sarah asked. Words popped up on the page.

“The Almighty Bianca. She’s been watching you and wanted to help. This was her gift to you!” The book wrote.

“Do you have any spells that can help me with the bullies in school?” Sarah asked.

Sarah felt a surge of kinetic energy run through her body, and she felt connected to the book, like they were a part of each other now.

The books pages started flipping again. They stopped flipping and in the middle of the book was a spell. Monster magic was the title. Sarah started reading the spell.

‘Monster Magic

Once this spell is cast, it cannot be undone. Cast the spell, and any monsters you imagine will come to life and protect you. Before you start, you must gather three simple ingredients. Black candles, chalk, and lavender. First, make lavender tea and drink it. This connects your brain to the divine goddess. Then, place the black candles in a large circle you can fit into, then light the candles. Then draw a pentagram using the chalk in the middle of your circle. Stand in the center of the pentagram. Once you’ve done this, read this spell.

I am might. I will not be tright. My imagination will come to life. What I imagine will help me thrive. I will from now on no longer strive.

Sarah followed the instructions exactly and read the spell.

The first creature she imagined was the Cookie Monster. He popped up out of nowhere and demanded cookies.

“Give me cookies!” He shouted and agreed to protect her for unlimited cookies on demand.

She was excited that she now had magical powers! She could use her imagination to summon any monster she wanted.

Thrilled with her new abilities, Sarah spent the next few days experimenting with her powers, summoning creature after creature, each one more horrifying then the last. She summoned all sorts of monsters, from dragons to tentacle armed horrors that like to wrap their squid like arms around anything they were allowed to grab. One of these creatures even ate Cookie Monster, not realizing how much Sarah loved him, so Sarah summoned an even scarier monster to eat the tentacle monster.

Sarah even summoned karate monsters that could kick and punch with incredible speed and power.

After summoning an army of monsters, Sarah was finally ready to go back to school and face her bullies. With a flick of her wrist, she summoned a group of karate monsters, who stood guard around her. She sent the monsters out the window so her mother wouldn’t notice, gave her mother a wet kiss goodbye, then walked to school. The bullies approached her, not fully recognizing who or what she was surrounded by.

One of the bullies started to throw a rock, so one of the monsters used one of his long eldritch tentacle arms to grab one of the bullies and his other arm to crack the bullies skull open and proceeded to drink his bully brains. This scared the rest of the bullies away and they started running in horror.

“Ah, that’s horrifying. She has horrifying bodyguards protecting her,” one of the bullies shouted while running away. She then used another spell she memorized from the book and turned the monsters invisible, so nobody would believe the bullies if they ratted her out. Now they would know how she felt whenever nobody believed her about their bullying.

From that day forward, the bullies left Sarah alone. And Sarah was no longer afraid of the idiot bully’s anyway. She knew that she had the power to protect herself, and she was no longer a victim. And she was surrounded by her invisible and horrifying monster friends twenty four hours a day.

Even though she still preferred to spend her time alone with her books and imagination, she knew that she always had her magical monsters to call upon if she ever needed them again. All she had to do was remove the invisibility spell. She used other spells to make money for herself, and became the worlds first multi billionaire under twelve to also own a chain of monster themed motels. She lived happily ever after.

And this is how the myth of all monsters was created.
