Each child’s head was checked for lice before sending them to the castle for a royal makeover. If they had it, they couldn’t go. Couldn’t be transformed into their favorite princess or be beautiful in Mom and Dad’s eyes.
There were bugs in her hair. Mom and Dad were distraught and demanded I call for removal, instead.
Three gentle knocks on the now closed door.
From the red velvet drapes unwound a well-dressed monkey onto the fitting room floor. It brachiated up the child, perched upon shoulders, and groomed her little scalp clean.
“All set!” I said, wiping her tears.
