CHAPTER FIVE

"Imagine if you can, living in a world without pain and suffering. Where human beings are naturally happy and where your days are filled with joy and happiness devoid of stress or anxiety. It's a real possibility." Jayne passed around the first draft of her movie script to everyone sitting at the glass conference table and adjusted her chair so she was eye to eye with all four studio department heads in charge of story development.

She opened a bottle of water, took a sip, and continued her pitch. "The times are crying for solutions to the mess the world has devolved into. The public is becoming desensitized from the chaos violent movies have exploited for the last five decades. It's spilling over into everyone's life. If that was the plan all along - it's working and it’s impacting our well-being. Suicide is becoming a rampant part of our society. Young people live in a world of dystopian hopelessness and they are desperate for an alternative. The added stress brought on by the pandemic has hit hard for some.

"I'm proposing a scenario where understanding and taking personal responsibility is the key. The story begins when dozens of characters are caught in a seemingly unbelievable situation - their emotions dragged under by the grief of the death of a beloved friend. A man in his early forties was taken in a senseless accident, his many internet friends are devastated and seeking to understand why something so unfathomable can happen.

This movie asks the question of how willing are we to let go of the pain and accept the promise of a life free of suffering. To observe the situation from another perspective. One that shows there are no boundaries between souls and events. The only real loss is in the perception of it."

Jayne could tell from how they were squirming in their seats that they weren't captivated by the idea. She forged on. "The protagonist is a woman who is coming out of a bad marriage, broken, self-confidence shattered, becoming progressively more Bipolar. She learns about her True Nature at a lecture and discovers a world--or rather a state out of mind--where she is freed from anxiety and self-doubt.

She is drawn into a relationship where she's introduced to her True Nature her Source of bliss and love. When she starts living the truth of it she discovers her doubts, suffering, and the pain connected to them start to fade away and she wakes up in a world, where she has superpowers, real not imagined. Not the comic book kind but the power of strength and wisdom that emanates from a heart filled with love and true divinity. In other words, her natural state of being.

"Please consider your true state for a moment,” she said emphatically. “In truth, we are all born free of suffering.

Remember that suffering is not happening in your true heart. But what you are experiencing is a dead mirror world, an artificially created territory of broken fragments. This is what the mind uses as a distraction to maintain control over your whole being. It creates a world that is not of divine light, and not even a true emanation of divine creation.

It has to do with the split mind. This false world came about because the true seat of divine consciousness was forgotten as you grew up. When progressing in a society filled with expectations, rules, judgments, and influences specifically designed to keep your mind occupied, it cultivates a consciousness that is separate from your true identity."

Genevieve Newsom, story developer, raised her hand. Her job was to vet the humanitarian elements. “Well this is purely altruistic, I can see it presented as an art piece like the Robin Williams movie “What Dreams May Come” or even a TV movie like “A Rumor of Angels”, but it doesn’t shout mainstream appeal. Unless you insert some kind of life-challenging conflict into the mix. Something people can relate to or people won’t believe it."

“But that’s just it. Finding a way for people, especially people living in this shadow world filled with all the mental disorders associated with it, I want to help them see to find comfort knowing it’s a feasible solution without any conflict. It has to resonate on a different level from life’s tragedies and general everyday trauma. I see it coming from a world of wonder and engaging scenarios. Enticing them into wanting it for themselves. It’s a choice they have to make alone, it can't be thrust on them when they are so fragile."

Jayne scanned her colleagues' faces and liked what she saw. They were attentive and she could see the cogs turning in their minds. This could work, she thought.

“You can blame people some of the time and even some people all the time, but you can’t blame all the people all the time. Sometimes you have to admit the fact that giving mental disorders credence only empowers them.” Jayne went on.

“I want my character to illustrate the benefits of understanding the truth and applying it to their own life. To live the truth of it being conquered while in truth conquering it.

There is a time to get over it. Whatever acronym, has been given to the disorder, it defines a whole life of being caught in its web. There is a solution, it’s simple and more than convenient. The only trick is you have to go beyond it to get over it. It’s on the other side of what is commonly known. It’s different and exciting and it's there waiting for your return.”

Mark removed his glasses and rubbed his eyes. “Are you saying we’re personally responsible for our own disorders?”

Jayne nodded her head yes, “The only chance to overcome any mental disorder and remove it entirely is to surrender to your true Source, the realm everyone lives in - but is not seen or even understood. It's there waiting. It is the truest happiness and joy, the pure essence of a blissful life and yet remains unrecognized. This is the paradigm that begs to be changed.”

Jayne took a pen from her purse and jotted down a thought she had on the last page and continued.

“It’s hard to conceive when one's life is lived believing they are attached to OCD, PTSD, or other Acronyms like BP. Don’t misunderstand me, PTSD is very real but it can be overcome as can most mental disorders, just by simply knowing that clinging to them is the oxygen fueling and giving them power.”

She scribbled down another note, and without even a pause said. “Plus, a strong desire to replace them and that shadow world they cling to. Replaced with a spotless ancient truth that is unchanging and permanent. It is the root and substance of our true nature. It just needs to be embraced and surrendered to.

The group looked around to see what everyone's reaction was, heads were nodding agreeably.

“Believing in mental illness, or suicidal tendencies, whatever the popularized acronyms are given, can be resolved simply by understanding its hold over you, for example, Bipolar.

“A borderline personality disorder is a mental health issue that impacts the way you think and feel about yourself and others, causing problems functioning in everyday life. It includes self-image issues, difficulty managing emotions and behavior, and a pattern of unstable relationships.”

Genevieve shifted uncomfortably in her seat, self-consciously brushing a lock of hair behind her ear.

“Let’s face it Psychologists and Psychiatrists have classified psychological disorders for a reason. Doing so allows clinicians and researchers to predict outcomes, consider treatments, and encourage research into their studies. And no doubt keeps them in a very lucrative business.”

Jake impulsively snickered, loud enough to swivel their heads towards his blushing face.

“You can be sure they are not supportive in believing in this higher power. Even while they are just as embroiled in it as everyone else. It would be bad for business."

Jayne paused for a moment, took another sip of water and assessed her audience's reaction. Stoned-faced Mark Oldman in charge of location asked another question. "Where does all this take place? Will the aforementioned dream sequence be included? Can we use the original Ashram Mission? How do you see the beginning?”

Jake from Budget and Finance was interested in the scope. "How many actors and production crew would it require? Where will it be filmed? America, Europe, Ireland, or how about New Zealand? You could include the aboriginal dream culture philosophy."

"OK, all good questions. I need to meet with my co-writer and work it all out. Today was just about pitching the story and if you think it's a feasible project. Do you?"

Ted Powell, the Head of Production said, “I'd like to read over your first draft and get back to you. I need to talk with Maggie, she's more in touch with this stuff than I. Nice pitch, by the way. I was moved by your passion and I agree something must change or humanity is going to be extinct if we continue on the path we're on. Thanks, Jaynie. Nice to see you; you're looking much happier than you did last time we met."

“Thank you Ted. Give my love to Maggie would you?"

"Will do. How much time do you need to whip this in shape?"

"Does that mean you think it will work?"

"I don't know. It depends on how the story plays and how the romantic relationship works out but I like your premise and you're right. The world is in need of new hope, something positive. Do your magic, and we'll meet in two weeks?"

'Romantic relationship? I didn't mention romance."

"Well you've gotta have some human touches just to keep your message plausible. Call me when you're ready, or messenger over the finished manuscript when it's done." He put his fatherly arm around her shoulder and hugged her warmly kissing her temple. "Sounds good though. Honestly."

Jayne shook hands with Genevieve and waved goodbye to Jake and Mark who were smiling and swapping ideas as they left the meeting room.

Downstairs, Jayne slipped into her Audi humming a happy tune and drove off to Pacific Palisades to give Jesse the good news."

Bum...ba dum ba dum🎶…Bum..ba dum ba dum…🎶. Jessie answered on the first ring, anticipating Jaynes' report. "So....what did they say? Is it good news or bad news?”

"I'll tell you all about it when I get there. I'm 20 minutes away. Shall I stop by Formosa's and pick up some Chinese food?"

"No, it's my turn to cook...I have some fresh asparagus and Sirloin steaks. I'll start the Barbee. Can you pick up some beer?"

"I can do that. See you in a few."

This story was designed to address the pain and suffering so many people are feeling in these universally traumatic times. I offer these stories in an attempt to help discover a solution and free up the anxiety created solely by the mind. The angst seems so tangibly real and yet...

Thank you for reading my story.
