Part One: Prologue.

Part Two: Life as we know it.

Part Three: Escaped.

The heading Breaking News scrolls across the TV screen.

“We interrupt this program with breaking news!” A man’s prerecorded voice announced and an image of a young woman took over the screen.

“Cameron Black, who was recently apprehended for the murder and attempted murder of several college students in the Lethbridge area, has been reported missing. Police will not confirm or deny whether he has escaped or been accidentally released. All we know is that he is at large, said to be dangerous and likely armed. If he is spotted, please use caution and contact authorities immediately. Do not approach him.” The news lady reported, her cheeks grew rosier as she continued.

“In other news, another man has committed manslaughter by way of running down several pedestrians in his vehicle on Mainstreet. This led to a police chase that only ended when the man killed himself and his wife by driving head-first into a semi-truck. In a weird twist of fate, the man’s name is Erik Singh, the father of one of Cameron Black’s victims, Helmar Singh. Who as of late has been reported missing, by the police who. Reporting to be having trouble locating him after his parent’s accident.” The woman continued.

“Upon further investigation, it was discovered that both men had been experiencing troubles with their microchips. When interviewed, an official from the World Health Organization issued this statement: All residents of the Lethbridge area need to isolate as further investigations will begin. You are instructed to be on stand-by until we have more information as to why there has been an increase in microchip malfunctions that modify human behaviour. So for the time being-“

Suddenly the broadcast was cut short and went to static.

Then it’s interrupted by a loud beep and a cut to what looked like a homemade broadcast.

“Um, hi. Sorry, I didn’t think this would work.” A young man began, looking around in bewilderment.

The broadcast was visible just over his shoulder and we could see the young man talking to the camera like he was now only a few seconds delayed.

He heaved laboured breaths as his eyes glazed over, almost like he’d forgotten he was on camera. Just as he reached over and grabbed something out of sight. A trail of dried blood was exposed. It ran down the side of his neck and soaked the collar of his shirt.

“This is my microchip.” He presented to the audience. It was a cylindrical piece no bigger than the tip of a felt marker. It glistened in the light, yet was hard to see between his fingertips, even as he brought it close to the camera.

Then a bang was heard from somewhere out of sight and his pale face emerged from behind his blurry fingers.

“Don’t listen to the government. Remove your chips, yourselves! We don’t need them, humans survived for millions of years without them! We can do this now! Don’t let them take over your lives, it’s all a ploy to “

“National security. Cameron Black you are under arrest-“

The camera is knocked to the ground and we get a sideways view as several inaudible shouts split the air. Cameron was tackled by several men in black suits and sunglasses as they wrestled him to the ground just before the feed was cut.

Hmm! Of course, the government will still prosecute him, even though it was their chips that caused him to turn into a maniac. It's never their fault! Nice ending to a well-conceived story!

  • Great ending with the government officials barging in. And yes REMOVE THOSE CHIPS

Wow! This was a brilliant series Donna! Well done! I really think your concepts and writing are masterful! A brilliant, creative writing force! I love the ending! Remove those chips people!

  • Huh. So the police don't wanna confirm or deny if Cameron escaped or accidentally released. Very sus. Hahahahahahahahahhaha I was hoping there to be a part where Helmar's dad goes berserk! Thank you so much for that! Now the whole Singh family is deaddddd 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Oh wow, Cameron removed the chip by himself! I mean, in the insane state he was in, I'm amazed he was able to do that! That was awesomeeee! But oh well, he's been silenced now. This was such a great series Donna! 💖

😱😱😱 Poor Cameron! His parents died and his microchip malfunctions and turns him into a monster. What a nightmare. I don’t trust the government either.

Unfortunately, the chips are going to be secretly inserted at your next doctor's visit. So please refrain from having your attention distracted. Great drama and plot Donna. But aren't there more Camerons out there?
