A TLBOH STORY

Love not lost

The world in this moment by the water is so incredibly quiet. He sits in utter stillness under the welcomed fresh air and conflicting trash around his knees. His eyes feeling heavy for the trip here had been long. They lie halfway closed, as his mind fights to desperately be set free. The world which lay mostly devastated before him, more vigorously felt from his travels. Such misery and plight and so full of sin. Inhaling deeply, a mandatory skill learned in order to rest while he can lie with one eye still open.

In the clean air he finds solace while the trash keeps him hidden. Exposed just enough to act quickly if and when predicaments presents themselves. Far from his previous life in which he enjoyed a clean environment. Amazing how it is the world can turn around and change a man’s life.

The air in this moment outside had been still so refreshing. That as a memory which lingered still haunted him. How difficult it all had become when all life took a massive fall and the world had very much turned toxic. Made hollow by ruling sadistic maniacs, to leave what was left not much different. Only when did mankind’s life gelt to be certainly shortened, did he panic and run, trying to hide for false safety. With this an enlightenment comes the assumption of truth told by stories of old. Selfish and brutal men still hoped to escape, yet for their last moment attempt achieved just to sour their fate, the mold just seeped in and killed them regardless. So many a bodies which were scraped, as savage some kicked the weak and women aside to even kill small children to cowardly hide.

Just to die in the end filling up corridors and dens and as most many of soon be places forgotten. What’s left is their legacy a stamp of most evil. Left stained putrid the smell of desperation and death, topped with the over abundant decay of their piled up corpses.

The only light in this darkness to ease his minds eye, to close them and try travel back in time. A sigh escapes as he lay with arms placed across top his knees. Supporting his chin with clenched hand held for him, an item so precious and very much priceless.

Across time his mind eased to leap boundless, relaxed just enough as a chain loosed as his grip then did dangle. Down to his thighs, the feeling kick starting the energy generating his imagination. The bridge he did sit, withered away as the silence of his mind was then overtaken.

Once woke his world changed. Green grass, blue skys, and from an open window, a different kind of fresh breeze. The sounds from beyond, a memory of a world far from vacant. There was music in the air rang sweet in his ears a soft lullaby. His mind then pleasantly picked up accented, a sound made from the lips a sweet humming by which his love sang.

He could smell from the kitchen the food she was cooking. The sweetness of pancakes made also with bacon. Her voice then rang out like an angel in heaven. Calling out to him get decent and be ever so ready.

Quelling excitement, he made stretch to wear and make way to the kitchen. En route he past to his attention then suddenly queried. The tele which had an emergency response blazing. Words that flashed by as The Center of Disease and Control pushed warning. 100,000 people it said, dead since this very morning.

In the moment his attention locked onto the screen, had immediately broke for his love had suddenly called out. With that loud crash of kitchen pans rose to his ear. Rushing in, to find her as she leaned over sick into the trash bins. Quickly he moved in to catch her and check, her health though withered way quickly to fall as he reached out to grab her.

Too slow he was only managing to break away from her neck, The heart-shaped Locket she wore which fell to the floor just as she herself landed. Next we’re the moments so brutal as she passed. Painful it was even retrieving the locket, for the last memory of her dying as it lay open a photo of them happy together. A present of love he had gave her, which offered only this moment the realization how broken with reality he become. This as she took her last breath in his very arms.

The light of the morning had come. The sun shone through the clouds with a prism of colors made from the tears in his eyes. Getting his bearing and looking out for wasteland thugs. He realized suddenly the locket had lain open, just as it had in his dream for he had dropped it in sleep. He reached for the locket and stared at the picture of them. Standing he fought the numbness in his limbs.

Gathering his balance and secure in his surrounding, he spoke out loud to the heart-shaped Locket. “My love, I miss you with all that I have. I feel confused about the life I am living. That night you died, was so terrible and saddening. Yet as it came to pass the world has become itself horrible. A nightmare of sorts which perpetuates fright. My Love for you spans across time, but with things as it is, you were far more blessed than I by dying. This world isn’t for your beauty there’s no denying. I have traveled far to get back to this place, this where we came, on our first date. A place with you I truly fell in love. Thus to give back to the Universe which it gave to me before. With that he kissed the locket and closed the picture of them tight… “with this I claim, that above all ….this love is not Lost.”

With that, he threw the heart-shaped locket into the sea. To watch it sink slowly to the bottom of the water, forever swallowed by the dark abyss beyond.
