Outside the sun was setting piercing one’s vision with an annoying orange yellowish glare. This made a man dressed in a tweed jacket reach into his pocket for eyewear protection. Inside a café sitting in a powerful chair turning book pages found on the establishment’s library shelf the knowledgeable reference felt like royalty waiting to be bothered.

Suddenly, a bell rang signaling a lost individual needing a question answered and craving late afternoon relief. Trying to find a secure base in a strange place he had never been, Vaiz Duote adjusted the messenger bag and used his imagination. Putting the novel down the man stood up and returned to reality, “dear sir,” he approached, “I am Dewey Decimal, and I invented a system that used letters and numerals to find things. ‘Are you looking for something?’”

Fixing the leather satchel, a second time the newcomer wiped his brow, “well, matter of fact yes, I am looking for something.”

“And what is that?”

“A character!” Vaiz exclaimed, “I have been all over the world, seen many settings, encountered numerous conversations filling my pages with plenty of dialogue.”

“But found no character?”

“No, I do not have a character, it is getting late, and deadline soon,”

Guiding him with one arm Dewey Decimal showed the proper path “you have arrived in the right place, please come into this darken existence.”

Now that the flaming daytime star was on earth’s other side a nightly mystique took center stage throughout the artistic getaway featuring sweets and a more mature intellectual atmosphere. “You can see in this dimness?”

“Here, let me get this,” Dewey reached for the wall switch, “that is better.”

As the brightness changed the whole mood, Dewey returned to the relaxing post that conjured up daydreams and fantasies.

“So, you are looking for a character?”

Taking a seat allowing the modern air condition to remove everybody’s perspiration Vaiz confronted the issue, “that is what I am looking for, a character, right.”

“Well, do you have a description of this character that is missing? What does the character look like?”

Shaking his head in a negative fashion, Vaiz honestly spoke, “I know the character lives in a village and has a foul mouth.”

“Okay,” Dewey responded trying to make something up, “is this a man, woman, kind trustworthy animal or a beast?”

“Are there any other choices?”

“Sure, it is your character that you are looking for?” Dewey watched his new friend be creative.

“I will choose the ‘beast’ answer,”

“Let me get this straight we have a beast living in a village spewing dirty words,”

“Yes,” Vaiz confirmed, “have you seen the character I am looking for?”

“Cannot say that I have,” Dewey remarked knowing many benefitted from his ideas when performing in-depth research.

Falling under the ‘story writing discussion time consuming spell,’ Vaiz relaxed and decided to describe the character he was looking for, “well this evil monster had demonic bloodshot eyes and would stare down his prey showing no mercy.”

Taking a gulp not needing a beverage Dewey noticed all the illumination go out, “closing time,” a voice announced in the distance.

“Such a character you found,” Dewey complimented, “good in all your spinning wit.”

An hour later in the same way dust uses carpet as a hiding place Dewey was swept out the door. Despite not having a moon in the sky due to a cloud covering, the positive enchanting fellow followed the lamp posts while engaging forming mist presenting a sinister scene that could end up in fear with simple button pushing.

After passing the only bar Dewey heard the word’s “last call,” not giving it any attention, the journey home continued until a patron pub displayed a horrifying sight blocking the path. Demonic bloodshot eyes stared Dewey’s well-organized self, straight in the face revealing monstrous traits.

“Oh, it’s that nice chap’s character,” Dewey calmed himself, “are you lost beast? Do you need directions back to your author’s vision?”

Affirmatively the beast answered, “I was just with your creator, he went home, you may want to go back into his mind, I am sure he is at the keyboard. “

Smiling the disturbance disappeared and a few minutes later Dewey climbed the steps leading home, “I should have told that wild thing to cut his hair and cleanup his appearance,” he whispered pulling out keys,

“I am home,” Dewey’s announcement flowed through the empty lonely apartment.

“I am in the office at the computer,” a female replied.

“Great, I have this wonderful romantic story idea swimming in my thoughts,” Dewey excitingly exclaimed ready to burn the midnight oil.
