Life is about challenges
and how we learn from them
It sat there staring back at me, threatening me with a blankness I found terrifying. The longer it held my gaze, the deeper the black abyss seemed to grow in the pit of my stomach. I could feel my brain tightening with rage. My nerves, like live wires, prickled at the thought of my imminent demise.
I’m not going out like this, this challenge won’t beat me, it’s not my first and it won’t be my last. That’s what life is, isn’t it? But the constraints of three lines and seventeen syllables is too much. I hate Haiku.

Travel Bubble
December 1967 and Prime Minister of Australia Harold Holt was contemplating his next step. Nearing the end of his second year in office, he could have been thinking about the current war his country was participating in, or possible pressures from a strengthening opposition or worse, from within his own party. There had been rumours of an affair which may have weighed on his mind, but none of that was likely bothering him this day. This day was a perfect day, parliament had finished for the year, Christmas was around the corner, and he was at his favourite place in the world, Portsea, on the Mornington peninsular.

The Ugliest Building
Mark Twain called the building I work in, “The ugliest building in America.” I agree. The Dwight D. Eisenhower Executive Office Building isn’t the largest in Washington, D.C., but its imposing façade makes it feel like it is. I work for the Office of E-Government and Information Technology. I have a satellite office in the bowels of this monstrosity. Working in this building gives us quick access to both the President and Vice-President because they also have offices here. This access may be why I’m in this situation, or maybe it’s the project I’m assigned to, or both.

In a little town settled between moving slopes and lavish timberland, there carried on with an old narrator named Elias. He was known all through the land for his spellbinding stories that appeared to move audience members to domains past creative minds. Each night, the residents would assemble around the popping fire in the town square, anxiously anticipating Elias' popular narratives.
