According to wisdom passed from the four elements to the keeper's of all things wondrous, Earth was once in liqued form. Unbeknownst to the Heaven's above an eruption of sorts was taking place and the Earth's water began to emit a rather stenchy, grotesque bile like odor. Suddenly, a repugnancy permeated the entire universe and all that existed in the depths of time. In the heavens, clusters had begun to form in fragments of matter, smaller than a grain of the finest sand. All was silent yet the beginnings of life were developing slowly; the first sign of the senses had been coalescing. There was no sound, no sight, no smell, nor heat or cold before. What the most expansive of all imaginations did not comprehend was the first of all senses had been initiated, thus striking the Universe with this unfiltered fetor.

In what can be closest to man's understanding, Smell was spawned much like a chicken hatches from an egg, working it's way through the darkness without any understanding of itself or what lied ahead.

The stank from Earth impermeated all that existed; the power of Smell would change all of eternity.

What seemed light-years away the second sense was also ripening, Hearing. In it's most embryonic form it would eventually become nurtured by Smell who longed for companionship. Unbeknownst to the newly fledged senses, more would join them. In a span of hours, Taste was flourishing harmonically and drifted toward them. Exactly how each of the senses began is truly mysterious, perhaps no one but the first cells formed contain that knowledge. In someway, too much knowledge is a beast in and of itself, draining us for answers to questions we'll never understand.

The tale of the senses forming passed from the dark, to the Earth's Moon and to the wisest of beings in the universe and reveal that Taste craved a specific form of matter and all that existed in this blank space in time did not satisfy it. Hearing, which had been blessed by compassion grew weary and from it's longing, the sensation of Touch was sowed for solace. Together, Smell, Hearing, Taste and Touch began to entwine. Their concoction, although spectacular, was incomplete. It would become whole sooner than anticipated.

Now a unit of four sensations, they began to coalesce into a symbiotic wonder. Matter continued to mutate yet Smell was experiencing tremendous sufferring from the Earth's malodorous emanation. Without thought or form the senses drifted throughout the vastitude of nothingness.

In one powerful swoop, a cellular explosion began changing all that had never been and from that Sight was consummated. Colors and tones burst like fireworks which alerted the unit of four. Hearing led the way to Sight finding it toilsome to fit Sight into the troupe of senses. Sight expanded their mélange, sending them spiraling faster than one galaxy could contain.

Matter forged and the sacred secrets of life began to converge; soon a form was made that could hold the senses steady. Within the form, Taste began to salivate, Hearing escalated, Smell which once only interpreted Earth's vileness as dreadful became engrossed with desire to confer with Touch and Sight to lead them there.

Moons lit up the darkness, the Sun and other stars gained a force all their own and just as a woman gives life from her womb the universe pushed painfully to let the dynamic five out. From their rawest form they landed on the Earth, sinking into the wet, dank planet. For many a cycle of the Moon closest to the Earth the senses rolled within their new form amongst the Earth's bowels. No one knows precisely when but the form suddenly had an urge to move and was gasping for something none of them understood, Air. As they rose as one now the sun was brilliantly shining and warm and Touch was delighted. Taste wanted for anything, everything and Sight saw for the first time a new element, a solid bulge. It was land portruding upward toward the heaven's and their form with all of it's might got them there. Hearing heard wind, and other new sounds of life which had begun while they had laid dormant, isolated far below. Touch shivered, the wetness caused it to feel cold, something new and uncomfortable. The form's belly grumbled and teeth chattered hungrily. Smell pulled in through a narrow pair of tubular opening's something that made Taste feel impulsive, desperate, fierce. Their form scampered ravenously led by Sight to a place where long forms on two feet made sounds. Hearing had not known this noise before but a sixth sense had emerged as soon as their form drug them upon the dry mass, it was called Instinct. Instinct was in charge now and together they scrambled up a mighty tree and leapt onto a structure where the sounds of the other life forms were. In a crevass between stone and wood they slid down until they hit something very hard. Their being had four legs unlike the formations Sight spied through an opening from where they hesitated. It was a warm and safe feeling space.

Hearing noticed all went quiet and the loud, boisterous beings were now making almost undetectable sighs. Sight and Instinct knew Taste would not survive much longer in this form; they carefully went into the small tunnel that led to a fairly dark room, albeit a beautiful knew element was discovered, the warmth and crimson colors of fire. The beings eyes were not open and they lay about seemingly in a state of rest.

Smell led the way to a new structure, a mass with four thin pieces of wood holding up larger planks with several round, yet flat backed pieces similar to the main construction. Instinct said to jump and up they all went while Sight and Taste became rambunctious, entering a ferocious state of fullfilling their form's belly. Smell was elated with aromas and Hearing listened carefully for any movement from the bigger forms in the other area. Taste licked and their form bit, chewed and swallowed with haste. Suddenly, a loud sound came that startled all of the senses and the resting beings. Something fell from where they were eating onto a stone, solid floor; Sight could see it was like hard, shiny water. Taste was greedy and Smell enabled it more; Hearing and Sight tried to pull them away with Instinct yet before they could act as one, something very large came at them, it was prickly for Touch, and caused them to fly, then fall onto the floor. Startled, Instinct felt conflicted, should their form run back to the opening where they began? Without understanding the form fled and sat with a belly full; Taste and Smell were satisfied. It was then they became aware that the taller forms didn't like them. Inside the wall their form sat, it too, needing rest.

From this experience, the form became one with it's senses. From the loss of innocence the bond was complete. Instinct had unveiled the beginnings of Fear.

Wow! Instinct will always be my favorite. Your version of the senses in creation is certainly interesting. Earth in a liquid form. I think we are heading back there now, Great ideas.

I do love the personification of the senses and how they come together in a way that feels familiar yet so fresh."Smell was spawned much like a chicken hatches from an egg" - great metaphor!

I loved this version of creation. Who really knows? Have you ever wondered if we all see, smell, taste, and feel the same things? Is the blue sky I see the same as the blue you see? Do some people smell lilacs and say "Ew" because they smell like onions to them? This makes me really think!
