Detective John Parker sat at his desk, staring at the file in front of him. It was a murder case, and one that had him stumped. He had been working on it for weeks, but he just couldn't seem to make any headway.

The victim was a wealthy businessman named Robert Williams. He had been found dead in his office, with a gunshot wound to the head. The strange thing was, there was no sign of forced entry, and the security cameras had been disabled.

Parker had interviewed everyone who had been in the building at the time of the murder, but none of them had seen or heard anything suspicious. He had even brought in a team of forensic experts, but they hadn't been able to find any useful evidence.

As he sat there, deep in thought, the phone on his desk rang. He picked it up, expecting to hear the voice of one of his colleagues.

"Detective Parker," he said.

"Hello, Detective," a voice said. It was a woman's voice, soft and smooth.

"Who is this?" Parker asked.

"I'm someone who knows something about the Robert Williams case," the woman said.

Parker's heart quickened. "Can you meet me in person?" he asked.

"I'm afraid I can't do that," the woman said. "But I can give you a clue. Look for the missing gun."

The line went dead. Parker sat there for a moment, stunned. Could this be the break he had been waiting for? He grabbed his coat and headed out the door.

He arrived at the scene of the crime and began to search for the missing gun. He combed through every inch of the office, but there was no sign of it. He began to feel frustrated, wondering if he had been led on a wild goose chase.

Just then, his phone rang again. "Detective Parker," he answered.

"It's me again," the woman's voice said. "Have you found anything?"

"No," Parker said, trying to keep the disappointment out of his voice.

"Keep looking," the woman said. "The gun is the key to everything."

With that, the line went dead again. Parker began to wonder who this mysterious woman could be. Was she a witness? A suspect? Or was she just someone trying to throw him off the scent?

He decided to focus on the task at hand. He went back to the office and began to search again. This time, he decided to go over everything with a fine-toothed comb. He examined the desk, the bookshelves, even the curtains.

Then, he noticed something odd. There was a small tear in the lining of the curtains. He pulled them aside and saw a small safe hidden behind them. He couldn't believe he had missed it before.

He opened the safe and found the missing gun. It was a .45 caliber revolver, the same type of gun that had been used to kill Robert Williams. But the gun wasn't the only thing in the safe. There was also a note.

The note read, "I did it. The gun is the only evidence. Destroy it and the case will never be solved."

Parker's heart raced as he realized what this meant. The killer had been in the office at the time of the murder. He or she had disabled the security cameras and had used the gun to kill Williams. Then, they had hidden the gun in the safe and torn the lining of the curtains to cover their tracks.

But who was the killer? Parker had no suspects. He decided to bring in his team of forensic experts again, hoping they could find something he had missed.

They combed through the office and found a small trace of DNA on the edge of the safe's door.
