Every couple of years, we seek out the thrill that only mountain skiing can offer. The snow covered mountains of Alaska will take your breath away. When you're at the base of these majestic mountains, clothed in the most blinding, crystal white snow, you gaze up, sometimes almost ninety degrees, and you're in absolute awe. We're always in search of the best lines. It may be comparable to when a surfer catches a great wave.
Of course they're exceptionally steep to climb up. So Pete is our helicopter pilot and he has impressed us on our last two trips. Therefore, going forward, he's our guy. His skill is unmatched. The tops of these mountains obviously has no place to land a whole helicopter. Pete literally hovers the helicopter on the tip long enough for us to exit and grab our gear. The helicopter is fitted with something that looks like it's ready to ski down the slope too! They're wide and look like helicopter shoes.
With no harnesses, no cords or safety nets, it's a feeling that is difficult to pen. Freefalling, chilly cold and fresh at the same time. As you drop your skiis down that steep edge staring you in the face, your heart is pounding, vibrating your entire body. The speed that builds up under your feet is overwhelming! And then the stop. The sudden stop. And when you reach the bottom, there is adrenaline pumping out of every cell in your body. It's a great accomplishment!
