Dragon Stone

The sun glistened over the oak and pine trees as frost lingered on the forest from the night before. The mountains were only sprinkled with snow creating a luminescent glitter along the ridge. If one were to climb on top of the mountain, one would see the valley where the villagers resided. This was known as the world of Magia Terra meaning “Magic World '' this is, of course, just a small portion of it. The province of “Valley Ridge '' The villagers were often referred to as “Ridgers” Ridgers were a peaceful people and were one of the few provinces that still lived in peace with the Dragons. The dragons were some of the largest dragons in Magia Terra. Dragons are more peaceful than people have thought over the centuries, they were similar to those of bears from earth. You do not bother them and they do not bother you. It was a common practice for the Ridgers and the dragons. It was one of the fewer provinces that M still had not influenced. Ridgers believed that the true heir of the throne was Cyrus. M was learning magic at a young age, but then she had turned into the dark side of magic. She started to create a group of followers. M had killed Cyrus’s parents and Prince Cyrus was forced to flee. He knew that if M had the chance she would kill him too, he snuck out of the castle as tears poured down his face knowing he would not be seeing his parents again and that he was alone. M had wanted to kill Cyrus because he would be next in line on the throne. So as a six year old Cyrus was surviving on his own he met his horse. He barely made it, when the sun had shown down on him and he was chosen to be a guardian to protect Magia Terra and since the age of six Cyrus was training to be a guardian with the Elder guardians. The guardians were humans which possessed magical powers to help protect Magia Terra from evil including M. M had taken over the castle and since then her black magic had infected the land around the castle. The land became dead and unusable. The bricks of the castle had slowly over time become black like coal. The elements chose someone worthy to wield their power. The guardians would gain their magical powers by exposing themselves in the elements. Cyrus was blessed by the element of the Sun, so every time he was outside and the sun was shining his powers would recharge. One day Cyrus would step up to M and he would be the rightful king once more and the world would be back in order. This brought hope to the people. Rumors of him starting an uprising were floating giving more hope to the people of the valley.

The dragons lived in the cave in the mountain, there were only three of them. One dragon was very large with enormous golden wings and silver talons, his face was hard and expressionless, he was named Opal. Opal had large snake-like yellow eyes. They looked like the sunset shining through an Opal stone hence the name Opal. The second dragon was Kamin, Kamin was a deep crimson dragon with large angular wings, she had sparkling white teeth and her scales shone like a glowing fire. She was much smaller than Opal, yet her wings are what made some of the villagers nervous even though they knew she would never hurt them. The third dragon’s name was Oden, Oden had gleaming colors that would change color depending on how the sunlight hit his scales. He had the colors that strongly resembled a rare gemstone called “Mystic topaz” at times he would be nearly invisible when flying in the sky because of his colors.

One day Oden was flying over the forest when he spotted something strange. It seemed to be a human, it was odd to see a human in the forest as they feared it. It was a human child around 8 years of age, this would be the same age as Prince Cyrus would be. Yet there was something odd about this human child because it was a female. Oden had to get closer, he landed just at the edge of the trees and watched. The child had now stopped and was staring at Oden, Oden stared back. Not knowing what to do and it seemed the child also did not know what to do. She did not seem afraid of him though. He folded his wings to show that he was not going to attack. The child came closer to him. Oden wanted to tell her that he would not hurt her.

“I know,” said the human voice in his head. Oden nearly jumped as a human cannot use dragon speak. Dragon speak is how dragons communicate with each other, they can hear their voices inside their heads. This human child was different- special even, he mused over her.

“I was chosen as a guardian, I can control the air,” said the child out loud to me. Oden stepped back from her as she came closer. How could she be so fearless? He thought as the spikes on the ridge of his back coiled up. The girl giggled and Oden became a little more assured, her laugh floated.

“Candace is my name,” she dragon spoke to Oden, who nodded understanding her. “You don’t have to be afraid.”

“I am Oden, perhaps you were chosen to be a guardian for a different reason,” he told her and the little human child smiled.

“What reason?” She said out loud.

“To help the dragons with the dragon stone,” Oden replied using dragon speak.

“What’s that?” She dragon spoke.

“It’s a stone that holds great power and M wants her hands on it, if she does, she will be able to control the dragons, which can harm our understanding of one another,” Oden explained as best he could to a child.

“I can’t fight I’m just a child,” she said to him.

“Then promise that this conversation stays between us. I will wait until you are of age,” said Oden sadly. Candace’s smile dropped, she was useless to him and Oden felt that. “As long as M does not know about the stone, we will be safe little one,” he reassured her she slightly perked up and without another word she disappeared into the forest. Oden lifted his wings and took off retreating back into his cave. One day, the human will make a difference, but not today.
