Tw: Murder

The daring young pup knew he could save the day.. he needed help from his much older and crankier Corpal and that was going to be the hardest part of this task. What did this young pup need to do? Oh, just save the city. That’s all. But we are getting ahead of ourself. The daring young pup is Drake, he is strong, smart and of course, daring. The older Coropal is Ruge. He is cranky but was one hell of a cop, is super smart and really does care about his friends.. he just has a weird way of showing it. Drake knew he needed Ruge to help him save their city. The only problem? They were talking dogs in an underground department because the city was full of humans that didn’t know doggos could talk. It was going to be an interesting time.

Drake walked into Ruge’s office on a sunny Monday morning and got right to the point. “Obviously, our city is being over run with crime and we need to help put a stop to it.” Drake knew this was risky because the humans are involved too. But he knew it needed to be done. They had to find the culprit behind all these attacks and end it for all the dogs and people of the city of Oakfront. Drake inhaled as he waited for Ruge’s reply. Ruge said “we can do it and we have to do it. For our safety.” This was not the answer Drake expected. But he sat down so they could talk over a plan.

An hour later, Drake emerged from Ruge’s office. All his buddies were waiting to hear what happened. His best friend, Sulu, was the first to pipe up, “what the ol grump say?” So Drake relayed the tale. Everyone was on board. Now to just work under the humans radar.

A few days into their investigation, Drake yelped.. “I know who it is!” Confused glances came from all around the war room. He powered on with confidence, “It’s Fluffy’s owner.. err, sorry, it’s Finn Johnson! He stole all the dog beds from the weekly shipment to PetSmart. He heard a collective sigh. “Oh yeah, and he .. do I have to say it? He murdered 2 people.” A collective silence filled the room. This kind of thing didn’t happen in their area.. it just didn’t. That’s why they were so determined to catch the guy. How did they catch the bad guy? It was pretty easy for this powerful pack of pooches. Drake had Sulu and the others out sniffing around and talking to neighborhood dogs. Mrs. Gregg’s dog, Ginger, told them she saw someone that looked like their suspect at the second scene. After several interviews, evidence (blood, one foot print, eye witness) and they were confident in who it was .. but how to tell the humans? Everyone decided to write down who they could tell then it dawned on them.. only one human could understand them. Her name was Grace. She was tall, pretty and had the most magnificent pets. She always brought us treats and was the only human that knew about this station. She had given them her number for emergencies only.. this felt like an emergency. So Drake rang her up.. three rings and a very sleepy “hello” “oh no, I didn’t realize how late it is. But we know who the killer is and we need to tell you so you can tell the humans. We’ll de brief you, too.” Drake could feel the shock through the phone. “Yes, absolutely. Who is it?” She simply responded. “Finn Johnson who has the dog Fluffy.” Again, the shock. “I’m going to call the police right now!” After Drake gave her the info she needed, they hung up. Drake instructed everyone to head home and try to get some sleep.

The next day dawned to what felt like hundreds of calls and messages. Drake had finally settled in around 6am and this was now 6pm.. an excited Sulu came on the line “hey man! Turn on the TV! Channel 7.” Click. Classic, Sulu. Drake sat up and flipped on his tv, and set it to Channel 7. “Mysterious murderer caught! Never underestimate tips.” Drake flipped the tv off. He knew they had won. He melted back into bed.

The next day, Drake headed into work. So. Much. Paperwork. When he walked into the war room, there was a cake and balloons and everyone was yelling “go Drake!!” Sulu came over and gave him a big paw shake. “Proud of you, dude.” It was a joyous time. Bittersweet that these crimes had to happen for the pups to catch this maniac. Ruge came out with his cane and said “I’m proud of you.” And gave him a half a hug. Drake almost cried. He had made the grump smile AND caught a bad guy. It was a good day.
