It was a few weeks before Thanksgiving, 2009. The campground was bustling, full of young scouts, and huge trucks stacked with supplies made their last deliveries for the week.

The potatoes stacked in the back of a pickup truck for transport further up the mountains were too tempting. The truck was right on the road, next to dense woods.

A young Sasquatch realized the easy bounty laid out before her, and stole as many of the bags as she could. When the elders learned there were more, they decided to go back in full to raid the rest of the truck bed. They had had a hard time that year finding enough food for the whole clan; this bounty would help see them through the bitter months ahead.

The clan moved quickly; there was no telling how long the vehicle would stay there. There was much relief when they found it still parked beside the woods.

Spry and powerful, the clan scooped up what was left in the truck bed.

It was as a youngster was reaching in to grab the last bag that a cabin door flew open. A gun pointed his way; a shot rang out...

And missed.

About the Creator

Megan Baker (Left Vocal in 2023)

A fun spin on her last name, Baker enjoyed creating "Baker's Dozen" lists for various topics! She also wrote candidly about her mental health & a LOT of fiction. Discontinued writing on Vocal in 2023 as Vocal is a fruitless venture.
