Kiss Me

“Do you want to try it?”

“Try what?”

“The practice in the Written Relics called kissing.”

“What would be the point?”

“You like testing out theories and exploring…”

“…Yes, but that is science and items on the terraform surface.”

“As they say in the Written Relics, expand your horizons, Labridae!”

“What are the requirements and parameters for this practice of kissing?”

Kobudai and Labridae met that evening under the venerable tree festooned with silver strands dangling from weathered branches during the Congregation of Endless Nights.

For the first time, Kobudai relied on actions instead of words to explain.

This is a reworking from my entry in Vocal’s Reset Your Password challenge.

I enjoyed exploring writing a story without sex or gender pronouns based on an anime I really liked called Sidonia no Kishi (Knights of Sidonia). In this anime, there are those born androgenous whose body morphs sex once they find someone they like. As such, I picked character names based on Japanese fish species that change sex.

I imagine that the kiss that takes place between Kobudai and Labridae has Sixpence None The Richer’s “Kiss Me” playing in the background!

I thought I recognized those characters. I love how you adapted it :) And we always think along the same lines for things!! I had a story where gender was not ascribed at birth either. And perfect song choice!!
