Soulmates

Cameron was running late, but that was nothing unusual. Everyone who knew Cami well knew that she was always fifteen to twenty minutes late to every event. Her family and friends had tried so many times to help her be punctual, but no matter how early she got up or started getting ready she was always behind somehow.

Today she had started getting ready two hours before she had to leave the apartment. She had allotted travel time, time to stop for a slice of her twin sister’s favorite chocolate cake, and time to try and make herself look presentable. Cami was not looking forward to attending yet another engagement celebration, especially knowing that she would now be the last single female in the family. Her loving mother would not hesitate to remind her at thirty years old, she was not getting younger. The only bright spot of the night would be getting to see her very pregnant twin sister, Jamison. Cami could not wait to see the look of pure joy on Jami’s face when the most decadent chocolate sin cake slice on the planet was produced for her to eat.

Cami’s long legs ate up the ground to the bakery, knowing she had to get the cake before the bakery closed, which was five minutes from now. She did not care that she was running in heels or that her wrap-around amethyst dress had come untied a bit, all she cared about was sliding through the door before Ben flipped the sign and locked the door. Cami was a regular and was known by name and order when she walked in the door. She arrived just as Ben was starting to close the door. He took one look at her disheveled appearance and simply shook his head as he let her enter the store.

There was one customer ahead of her, a tall, well-built gentleman, whose butt looked like the jeans he was wearing were designed just for his backside. Yes, even in her attempt to catch her breathe Cami did not miss that perfect ass in front of her. Cami was not a small woman, she was 5’9” flat footed and in heels she almost hit 6 feet, yet she could not see over this man. He looked to be at least 4 inches taller than her.

“Focus Cami”, she thought to herself, “this is about the cake not your overactive hormones.”

She heard a slight snicker from in front of her, realizing that she must have not used her inner voice, but spoken those words aloud. It was something that happened quite often and the people who loved her would just smile and say her filter was broken. Cami now added a blush to her already sweaty and wind-blown body.

“Shit” she mumbled. Another snicker from the magnificent creature in front of her.

Cami forced her thoughts back to the cake and making her sister happy. She knew that at this time in the evening the supply would be running low. As she attempted to look around the Adonis in front of her, she noticed the gentle waves of his brown hair and the way it hung from his head. He needed a haircut, but the flow was too sexy to trim. This intense inspection of his flowing hair and broad shoulders cause Cami to stumble and loose her balance a bit. Another snicker from the guy in front of her. In her clumsiness she saw that there were two pieces of chocolate sin cake left.

“Oh good, two slices left.” Again, Cami realized she had spoken her words out loud and groaned. Another snicker.

The man placed his order in the sexiest voice Cami had ever heard in her life. The sound of his voice was like sin on silk bed sheets. His voice slide over her body and kick started her libido. The raspy quality of his deep baritone was enough to melt any woman’s panties. Cami shifted slightly uncomfortably to ease the tingling in her lower region, as she listened to him exchange pleasantries with Beth, Ben’s wife, and co-owner of the bakery.

Cami was dazed and half paying attention as he ordered, her thoughts scrambled to process what he had just said. Had he just ordered both slices of the chocolate cake to be wrapped in separate boxes?

“Really?...Well shit!” Cami exclaimed.

This time the Adonis turned around with the most magnificent smile Cami had ever seen in her life. He did not seem too waiver in his mega-watt, pearly-white smile. His eyes did not travel the length of her curvy body like most men did. He looked only at her eyes, and she felt the entire world tilt off its axis. As cliche as it sounds, Cami now understood what people meant by eyes being the windows to the soul. There was warmth, kindness, compassion, and a little bit of naughtiness residing in his eyes. She saw strength and sensitivity there in the depths of his brown-green eyes. The most amazing eyes she had ever seen, reminded Cami of her happy place in the forest where the moss and trees fit together in a perfect harmony. Cami knew she was staring at him with her mouth opened and snapped it shut when Beth gave him his total. He turned back around with an even bigger smile and handed Beth his card for payment.

Cami was so disappointed she would not see the pure bliss on her sister's face from the chocolate cake but did not want to go to the party empty handed so she would order one of the other amazing desserts to take with her. She waited for her dream man to move aside so she could order. Once he picked up both boxes in his large hands, he turned very slowly to face Cami. She felt the pull of his eyes in the very core of her being, and a flood of moisture had pooled in her lower region. This man was perfection on legs.

He smiled at her again with his amazingly full lips, which were created for intense, lingering kisses. The words that came out of those full lips, shocked Cami to her core.

“Hello, Cami. I’m Joshua.” His voice slid over her body and touched places she thought long dormant. It took her a minute to process that he knew her name. Cami stammered as she asked, “How do you know my name?”

“I pay close attention to the one woman who has fascinated me since the first time I watched her trip over the sidewalk curb in her rush out of the bakery” he purred back at her.

He continued as Cami went into a full body blush. “I have seen you here a few times, but it was always in passing. Every time I felt a pull to talk to you, but you always seem like you are in such a rush. I saw you running here today, and I have to say it was a thing of beauty. Your long blonde hair escaping its bun, your dress showing a bit much cleavage and those amazing long legs as you ran in your heels like you were on fire. I knew before you came into the bakery, you were coming for the chocolate sin cake, and I wanted the opportunity to talk with you. I knew I needed to talk with you. So, I purchased both pieces knowing I would give you one but needing to have the opportunity.”

Cami was stunned into silence as he handed her one of the boxes, his eyes never leaving hers. She knew she needed to respond, but for the first time in her life Cami was speechless. She had never had anyone do something so selfless or kind for her. She was always the one to take care of those around her, the one to put others' needs before her own. Never had she had anyone do such a small thing that meant so very much to her.

“Thank you, Joshua, I cannot even express what this one piece of chocolate sin cake means to me. It’s actually for my pregnant twin sister and I am so late already,” Cami finally choked out.

Josh looked at her, his smile breaking for a moment. He then an even bigger smile than before spread across his face, lighting up his eyes from within. His voice dropped an octave, and the sexy rasp was more pronounced as he simply stated, “then you will be even later than you already are, because you have to share this piece of chocolate sin with me.” The kindness and twinkle in his eyes left no room for denial. Cami smiled back and they walked out of the bakery, across the street, to the park side by side, their souls shining with the brilliance of a matching pair.
