Chase's Chase - Episode 2

I/E. NIGHT - CHASES DREAM - INSIDE CAR IN SCENIC MOUNTAIN AREA

DARK PURPLE AND BLUE COLORS FOR THE SCENERY AND INSIDE THE CAR.

CHASE is back in the back of the car from the dream he had in episode 1. There are still the three people in the car, two in the front and one in the back, sitting next to CHASE. The people are dressed up for Carnival with masks in their hands. The area they're driving through has mountains surrounding it.

STRANGER 3

Hey buddy, you want a hit off it?

STRANGER 3 holds out a joint in front of them. CHASE takes a hit off the joint.

CHASE

Where are we going?

STRANGER 1

Carnival

CHASE

Carnival?

They continue driving through the mountains and come up onto a city. The city is Milan. They drive up into the city. CHASE puts his window down and admires the area around him.

CHASE

Woah.

They drive up to a big building with a lot of cars parked in their parking lot and along the sides of it. They park along the side of the road and get out of the car. CHASE follows the three people as they make their way up to the doors. The three of them put their masks on and CHASE watches them as they do. As they step in the room illuminates up with lights and Carnival decorations.

STRANGER 3

Put this on.

STRANGER 3 hands CHASE a mask.

STRANGER 3

It'll light you up.

CHASE starts dancing to the music on the dance floor. He looks around as he does and sees all the different creatures flowing through the air, lit up by lights. STRANGER 3 comes up and pats him on the shoulder.

STRANGER 3

Hey, I have someone I want you to meet.

CHASE follows STRANGER 3. They walk into a room in the back, behind the dance area. In the room is a ton of female members of the military and one blonde male. The only one not in uniform is a young blonde woman, in a Carnival outfit. The members of the military start leaving, acting weird in the process.

BLONDE MILITARY MAN

Expect the unexpected. It's just not for us.

INT. MORNING - INSIDE THE BUS

CHASE wakes up to his body being shaken.

JACK

Hey, excuse me.

JACK snaps his fingers in front of CHASES face. He motions for CHASE to take his headphones out. CHASE takes his headphones out.

JACK

It's like 10 minutes and then we're there.

CHASE

Got it.

CHASE puts his headphones back in. His music has stopped playing. He looks down at his phone and tries to get it to play again but nothing will happen. He checks to see if he has service and he does. He suddenly starts hearing the sound of static coming from his headphones.

CHASE

Huh?

ALIEN WOMANS VOICE

You're not alone.

EXT. DAY - AT THE PARK

CHASE, JACK, LIA, and ARMANI are all walking throughout the park. CHASE has cotton candy, ARMANI has fried dough, and LIA and JACK both just have drinks.

ARMANI

What do you guys want to do first?

ARMANI takes a bite of his fried dough.

ALIEN WOMANS VOICE

Get off my countertop.

JACK

Do they have a haunted hayride here or something?

ARMANI

No, but they might have a haunted house.

ALIEN WOMANS VOICE

Get off my counter top.

CHASE

What the fuck is going on?

LIA

We're heading towards the haunted house. Are you going to go in with us?

CHASE thinks on it for a second.

CHASE

Yeah, might as well.

They walk over to the haunted house and get in line.

ALIEN WOMANS VOICE

Get off my counter top!

CHASE suddenly sees a screen before his eyes.

THE SCENE IS COMPLETELY GREEN EXCEPT FOR THE PEOPLE.

On the screen is a man with his face down on a counter top, with a gun to his head. It suddenly switches and becomes CHASE laying in a chair with his hands tied down to the armrests. In front of him is two doctors, with their face covered by gas masks. They move in a slow motion, as if they were on another planet. The area around them is cold and stone. CHASE jumps back in reaction.

CHASE

Ahhh!

JACK

I know! The mummy even looks realistic.

CHASE comes back to reality and sees a stuffed mummy in front of them. They are almost to the front of the line now.CHASE leans over towards ARMANI.

CHASE

(Whispers) I had a vision

ARMANI

Just now?

CHASE

Yeah.

ARMANI

What was it?

CHASE

(Whispers) It looked like someone who was kidnapped. It wasn't a voice either. It was visually. Like as if I were in the place of the person.

ARMANI

Are you sure you want to go into a haunted house after just seeing that?

CHASE looks at the haunted house, thinking over what ARMANI just said.

CHASE

You've got a point.

JACK

You guys coming?

ARMANI

I think we're going to sit it out. We'll meet you guys over at the roller coasters.

JACK

Whatever you say.

CHASE and ARMANI wave goodbye to LIA and JACK. CHASE and ARMANI walk back over to the benches and take a seat. CHASE gets out a cigarette and lights it up. ARMANI gets his vape out.

ARMANI

So what was it like? Do you think it's just related to the voices?

CHASE shrugs, his expression getting a little bluer.

CHASE

It could be. It was weird. Like as if it were a hint to something even if it is just like the voices.

ARMANI

Haven't the voices given you answers on your tests before?

CHASE

Yeah, all the time. That's the hard part with all of this.

ARMANI

Have you been hearing a voice today?

CHASE

Yeah. It's been saying, "get off my counter top."

ARMANI

Get off my counter top?

CHASE

Yeah. Then I got the visions though and they involved a counter top in one of them.

ARMANI

We were just in front of a mummy too, so that could be it.

CHASE

That's true.

They both finish up smoking and vaping. CHASE puts out his cigarette while ARMANI puts away his vape.

ARMANI

Let's head over to the roller coasters. I bet they'll be out soon anyways.

CHASE and ARMANI start walking over towards the roller coasters. On their way over they run into LIA and JACK.

CHASE

What the fuck?

ARMANI

Wait, you two are already done?

JACK

Yeah, it was really quick. Cheesy too. Not worth it. Don't blame you guys for not going in.

LIA

It was mostly just zombies and mummies.

ARMANI and CHASE look at each other. CHASE shrugs.

INT. AFTERNOON - AT THE PERFORMANCE

Times has gone by and they go through all the roller coasters. They end up setting on a circus performance, and go inside, taking their seats. ARMANI and JACK both have popcorns, while LIA has a big soda. CHASE reaches over and takes some of the popcorn from ARMANI.

ALIEN WOMANS VOICE

Surprise.

The lights in the room suddenly dimmed down.

HOST

Ladies and gentleman! Boys and girls! Tonight we present to you two acts! One will be our young Miss. Harper and her performance of mind reading. And both second and last we have our cutting edge duo, the masked magician and his companion, Miss. M.

Out comes the woman that was in the private room in CHASES dream that he was about to be introduced to.

CHASE

What is going on?

LIA

Be careful. She might sense you and then pick one of us.

HOST

And now, Miss. Harper and mind reading.

HARPER walks down front and stands in front of the first row. She looks around and observes the room around her.

HARPER

Hello! I am Harper and I am going to present to you mind reading tonight! Now as you can see I was just observing the crowd because of course I will need some guests to read the minds of. Are there any people willing to offer a mind for our first round?

Multiple people in the crowd call out and raise their hands. HARPER points to a middle aged woman (CONTESTANT) in the second row.

HARPER

You there. Come on up.

CONTESTANT smiles and gets up, heading towards HARPER. HARPER pulls out a chair.

HARPER

Take a seat.

CONTESTANT takes a seat in the chair. HARPER observes the woman while smiling, the woman smiling and giggling back at her.

HARPER

Okay, now let me ask you a question. Can you think of a specific item and keep it in your mind?

CONTESTANT

Yes.

CONTESTANT closes her eyes for a second and then reopens them.

CONTESTANT

Got it.

HARPER

Okay, I'm going to have three guesses and you tell me if I get any of them on the first try. My guesses are...

HARPER stares down the woman.

HARPER

Stars, Flags, and The 4th of July.

CONTESTANT stares at HARPER in aww.

CONTESTANT

That's right.

CONTESTANT puts her hands over her mouth. She gets up and heads back to her seat. The audience applauds.

HARPER

Now another person but something different this time.

HARPER points at CHASE.

HARPER

How about you there?

CHASES face goes red in embarrassment.

CHASE

Umm...

HARPER

Come on down!

ARMANI lifts CHASE from his seat. CHASE starts slowly walking down to the front. He goes up on stage and stops in front of HARPER. CHASE takes a seat in the chair.

HARPER

Now, I'm going to read your dream you had from the night before. Don't worry I'll won't share the embarrassing parts with the audience.

AUDIENCE laughs. HARPER stares at CHASE. Her face starts to go pink.

HARPER

I see... Um...

CHASE thinks back to how the woman in the dream looked just like HARPER.

INT. NIGHT - CHASE'S VISION - INSIDE THE BACK ROOM AT THE PARTY

CHASE is suddenly back in his dream at the Carnival party but instead of being there is watching it like his visions. HARPER walks out to the military members with a big tray covered in deviled eggs and little sandwiches.

HARPER

I brought us some food.

MILITARY WOMAN 1

Oh great, she's still here.

BLONDE MILITARY MAN

We should probably head out soon.

HARPER

I made some deviled eggs, if any of you would like to try them.

HARPER reaches out and touches the hand of BLONDE MILITARY MAN. BLONDE MILITARY MANS eyes go wide and he goes still, having a vision as she does it. BLONDE MILITARY MAN suddenly stands up.

BLONDE MILITARY MAN

We should probably get going.

MILITARY WOMAN 1

I agree with that.

MILITARY WOMAN 2

Sorry to be leaving once you bring food out.

MILITARY WOMAN 1

We've just each already had enough food today though.

MILITARY WOMAN 1 glares over at MILITARY WOMAN 2. They get up and leave. CHASES vision suddenly starts to blur.

INT. AFTERNOON - AT THE PERFORMANCE

CHASE comes back to reality and sees HARPER staring at him with tears in her eyes.

HARPER

Well folks it looks like my readings are a bit off this time. I might have to take a break and give you a little extra time before our next act. I apologize.

CHASE gets up and goes back to his seat. He sits down next to ARMANI. CHASE leans in and grabs ARMANI, JACK and LIAS attention.

CHASE

That was the woman from my dream and she just saw herself in it.

LIA

Why didn't she just keep on going?

CHASE

I think it's cause it was real.

The crowd murmurs while they wait for the next act.

JACK

Hopefully this one stays out for the whole act.

HOST comes back out.

HOST

Sorry folks for the last act ending early but the next one we have coming up here will knock your hats off.

He throws his hat up in the process and disappears. The crowd aww's over the performance. Suddenly, as if coming from below the floor, two performers show up, Elyse and Ashton.

ARMANI

This is going to be good.

ELYSE

Hello, ladies and gentlemen!

CHASE freezes. It's the same voice he heard earlier. CHASE stands up suddenly.

CHASE

That's the voice!

ARMANI

What?

CHASE

That's the voice from earlier! That woman! It's the same one that was saying to get off the counter top! I'm out of here.

CHASE stands and runs out of the tent.

EXT. DAY - EVENING - OUTSIDE THE PERFORMANCE AREA

CHASE walks back and forth, thinking hard.

CHASE

How is this possible? Maybe I'm just overthinking. Maybe I'm wrong.

ARMANI, JACK, and LIA come out and meet CHASE.

JACK

Why'd you run out?

LIA

Yeah, is everything okay?

CHASE

The couple. The woman. It was her voice.

CHASE suddenly goes silent and looks down in embarrassment.

CHASE

Nevermind.

JACK

You missed a good performance. The woman vanished and showed back up in the middle of the audience.

LIA

Yeah. It was rather magical.

CHASE

Sounds like real magic.

LIA

Her voice sounded so strange though.

CHASE

How so?

ARMANI

Like as if she weren't real. Like a puppets voice.

ARMANI looks at CHASE, remembering back to what CHASE said before he ran out.

JACK

I say we all call it a day.

LIA

I agree. My feet and legs are starting to get sore.

CHASE

I'm getting tired too.

ARMANI

The next bus leaves in ten minutes.

ARMANI looks down at his phone.

JACK

Off we go.

They each walk out of the Park and head towards the bus stop.

HARPER

Hey!

HARPER comes running over towards the four of them from the tent. She stops in front of CHASE.

HARPER

I just wanted to apologize for what happened earlier. I didn't react to my vision right and should have stayed out to finish the show with you. I apologize.

HARPER puts her hands behind her back.

CHASE

Apology accepted.

CHASE smiles at HARPER.

HARPER

I was also wondering if you'd like to meet up sometime. I just saw a bit in that vision and maybe we could do a reading.

CHASE

Umm...

CHASE thinks over all the visions he already has.

CHASE

Might as well.

HARPER

Amazing. Here's my phone number.

HARPER hands CHASE a piece of paper.

HARPER

Call me when you're ready and we can set it up.

HARPER smiles, nods, and waves while walking away.

JACK

Who here says it turns into a date?

Everyone raises their hand except CHASE. CHASE shakes his head and sighs.

INT. NIGHT - CHASES ROOM

CHASE is in his room with papers covering his floor. The papers are about missing people and victims of murder. CHASE smokes a cigarette on his bed while looking through them.

CHASE

I really should switch to vaping. I feel like I'm going to be up all night.

ELYSE

Well that's not a problem. We're night people too.

CHASE

Why did she have the same voice as you?

ASHTON

Because we are those people.

CHASE

No you're not.

ASHTON

Yes we are. We're magicians.

CHASE

It isn't possible for me to be hearing you if you are those people. I need Kayla and Devin back. At least they can give me answers.

Before CHASES eyes comes the screen and OFFICER.

OFFICER

OFFICER is wearing his typical uniform but instead looks bashful this time.

CHASE

You speak Italian?

OFFICER disappears. CHASE looks around confused.

CHASE

How many people do I have now? And what's up with all the visions?

ELYSE

It doesn't matter. It's just that you can hear us at least. Now listen up! I have something to share. Now yes, we are performers, but we're also criminals, which is why you need to keep it a secret with everyone else that you hear us. You can only tell your one friend, ARMANI, since he already knows.

CHASE

He knows more about my vision with the other person. Not about your voices.

ELYSE

Either way you can tell one person. Other than that keep it a secret.

CHASE

Why keep it a secret? They're not going to believe that it's you two anyways.

ASHTON

Because we have a mission for you.

CHASE

A mission? What's the mission?

ELYSE

It's to catch a kidnapping trafficker.

CHASE

But aren't you criminals?

ELYSE

(SHOUTS) Are you going to help us or not?

ELYSE is suddenly on the screen before CHASES eyes tapping her foot.

CHASE

Yes. I'll help you.

INT. MORNING - CHASES ROOM

CHASE wakes up in his bed. He checks his phone and sees the time. He turns on his music and gets up.

FAKE IT BY SEETHER STARTS PLAYING

CHASE gets ready in the bathroom. While he gets ready he looks down at the piece of paper that HARPER gave him with her number on it.

CHASE

It's this a smart idea with you two now here?

ELYSE

It's fine.

ASHTON

Yeah, it's just Harper.

CHASE

It's just Harper...

CHASE finishes getting ready. He takes a seat on his bed and gets out his phone. He dials in HARPERS number. CHASE turns his music down a little bit. The phone rings for a few seconds.

HARPER

Hello?

CHASE

Hey, it's Chase. The guy from the show yesterday.

HARPER

Oh yeah! Hey! How are you doing?

CHASE hesitates for a second, thinking over the new voices.

CHASE

Umm.. Pretty alright. How are you?

HARPER

Good. Is there something I could help you with?

ASHTON

He's ready for a reading.

CHASE

I'm calling because I'm ready for a reading.
