There weren't always dragons in the valley however when the kingdom of Celeste was on the brink of collapse. The princess Airele who was no more than the age of 20, had started to pray for a miracle. One that would save her and her family from the pending ruin that awaited them. Her father had started a war with the Kingdom of Ragno, who were known for their vicious and brutal tactics. As the kingdom of Ragno marched on the kingdom Airele escaped with one of her fathers most trusted guards. His name was Killan, and he had rushed into the room on the warm day.

"Princess Airele, we must escape now, come." He said with a stern caring face.

Airele stood quickly with a nod and followed him. Worry filled her face but she did the best she could to hide it. Killan whisked her out through an underground passage. They were careful to walk as quietly and quickly as possible. They tracked through the forest and the tunnel came out into a nearby cabin that was hidden deep in the woods. Once here Airele wirled to face the Knight.

"Where is my father?" She said, trying to prevent her voice from breaking. The Knight looked at her with sad eyes and she knew that he had perished in the castle. She hit her knees as tears found their way out of their eyes. Killan kneeled next to her and pulled her into his arms. Her small frame racked with sobs as he held her close stroking her hair. He knew that it would be rough to tell her but he had promised her father to protect her and keep her hidden. The King of Ragnoe would be looking for her no doubt. She cried so long she put herself to sleep. Killan carely lifted her and carried her to the room. As he laid her into the bed he took in her features. Her hair was a light blonde, and her skin was a milky smooth like porcelain in color. Her closed eyes hid bright green eyes. She was a beauty like none other. A goddess trapped in a human body. Killan was only a year older than she but knew she would never look his way. He left her to rest, he had to make sure they were not followed.

As Killan tracked his steps carely he heard a gruff voice of a few guards. They must have been sent after him and Airele. He drew his sword before rushing the one closest to him. As he fought he used the princess as his motivation. She needed him to protect her until she was ready to ascend the throne. Before he knew it, there was blood pooled in the ground of the guards who had once been hunting for them. He took a deep breath before heading back. There were horses nearby that a villager had. He gave the kind old man ten gold for each. Killan had overpaid but it didn’t matter since it was to get them to safety.

Upon returning Killan gently woke Airele, night was upon them and was the best time for them to ride. He handed her a plain robe that would cover her elaborate dress that could give them away.

“Are you ready?” Killan asked her after he helped her mount her horse before mounting his own. Airele nodded and they took off on the horses. They rode for several hours until they reached an abby. A nun came out to meet them.

“Killan, is this her?” she asked, looking up to them. Killan nodded and looked over to Airele’s sullen face. His heart broke for her, she had lost everything including her father. He remembered how when fever took her mother she stayed in her room for months. Killan dismounted and walked over to help Airele get off her horse.

The nun showed them into the abby and gave Airele a room. Killan would have to sleep in the stables with the horses since men weren’t allowed in abby’s. Airele took in her surroundings before setting her cloak on the bed and kneeling to pray.

For the next 100 days and nights she prayed to the God Nocturni. Nocturni took mercy on her and blessed her with a majestic dragon. The dragon was born of her prayers. His name was Mercurial and he was a beautiful electric blue with deep red eyes. He crawled into her lap and slept, he was too small to help but she would grow him into a strong wholesome warrior. She loved Mercurial with her whole heart.

— Celeste Castle —

“Your Majesty, we have breached the walls of the castle if you would like to do the victory parade.” Kian reported to the King of Ragnoe. King Ragnor nodded and mounted his horse. The parade gathered behind them. The King kicked for his horse to go forward. The white and black stallion trotted forward. They tracked through the blood filled streets to the castle. There were cries and whimpers that filled the air as hooves stampeded to the castle. As King Ragnor entered the gates, King Arlen was dragged in front of him. He peered up to King Ragnor through a bruised face with a heated gaze. King Ragnor dismounted and looked around with a concerned look.

“Where is his daughter?” He said with a booming voice. Causing some of the men to flinch.

“Sire, she was not in the castle when we stormed it.” The general spoke up to King Ragnor. Ragnor’s face displayed rage that made some of his men quake in his stead.

“Find her, NOW!” King Ragnor boomed, making his men scramble. King Ragnor turned his cold gaze back on King Arlen. He smiled a devious dark smile. King Arlen did nothing to hide his disdain for him. Ragnor pulled his sword from his scabbard on the horse. The long metallic blade shone in the sunlight. He raised it above his head. King Arlen closed his eyes, as the blade fell to his neck. There was a light ringing until he opened his eyes. Before King Arlen was his wife. She was still as beautiful as the day he had lost her.

“What took you so long my love?” Her sweet voice rang out full of love. King Arlen embraced his sweet wife. Her blonde satin hair still smelled of lavender.

“Zena, my love, it’s been so hard without you. I fear for our daughter, please Nocturni have mercy on her soul.” He spoke, holding her close. A few tears streaked out of his eyes. Zena pulled away and wiped his tears with her thumbs as she held his face.

“She’s our blood, she is strong willed and beautiful. Nocturni will guide her way.” she said softly as Arlen nodded his head in agreement.

King Ragnor wiped the blood off the sword and sheathed it back into the scabbard before heading into the throne room. To take his seat on the throne, he had finally taken the largest kingdom for himself. His son would soon arrive and when he did he would serve Princess Airele on a platter to him. It was no secret she was one of the most beautiful women in the kingdom. And his son would have only the best. He fell against the back of the throne with a cruel smile spread across his face. His reign was only beginning.
