Breaking the Chains of Trauma

A Nigerian Daughter's Journey to Healing and Love

By Delight Published about a year ago 2 min read

Amanda was born in Onitsha, Anambra State, on a rainy day in March. She was the first child of her parents, and as the eldest daughter, she was saddled with a lot of responsibility. Her parents were poor, and they struggled to make ends meet. As a result, Amanda had to help out in the house, taking care of her younger siblings, cooking, cleaning, and doing all the chores that were expected of her.

Despite the challenges she faced, Amanda was a bright and talented child. She was top of her class in school, and her teachers often praised her for her intelligence and dedication. However, her parents did not have the means to send her to university, so Amanda had to put her dreams of further education on hold.

As Amanda grew older, the weight of her responsibilities began to take a toll on her. She felt like she was drowning in a sea of expectations, with no one to turn to for help. She became withdrawn and anxious, and her once bright spirit began to dim.

It was during this time that Amanda's parents began to pressure her to get married. They believed that marriage was the solution to all their problems, and they wanted Amanda to find a man who could provide for her and her family.

At first, Amanda was resistant to the idea of marriage. She did not want to be tied down to someone she did not love, and she was not ready to give up on her dreams of further education. But her parents were insistent, and eventually, Amanda gave in.

She was introduced to Chidubem, a wealthy businessman from the city. Chidubem was arrogant at first, and Amanda did not like him very much. But as they spent more time together, he began to warm up to her. He saw the pain and trauma that Amanda had experienced in her childhood, and he wanted to help her heal.

Slowly but surely, Chidubem became a source of comfort and support for Amanda. He encouraged her to pursue her dreams of further education, and he even helped her to pay for her tuition fees. With his help, Amanda was able to enrol in university, and she finally began to feel like she was living the life she had always dreamed of.

But even with Chidubem's support, Amanda could not escape the trauma of her childhood. She still felt like she was carrying the weight of the world on her shoulders, and she struggled with anxiety and depression. It was only through therapy and counselling that Amanda was able to confront her past and begin the healing process.

As time passed, Amanda and Chidubem's relationship deepened, and they became partners in every sense of the word. They supported each other through thick and thin, and they built a life together that was filled with love and happiness.

Looking back on her journey, Amanda realized that the road to healing was not an easy one. But with the support of loved ones like Chidubem, she was able to overcome her trauma and find peace. And even though she could never erase the pain of her childhood, she knew that she had the strength and resilience to face any challenge that came her way.
