She stared out her window. The sunset, the swish of the waves. It seemed so improbable that someone with her income bewould have a week on a tropical island. She had won it. A lottery at the art gallery where she worked. If she had been a high-level worker she would banned from winning but she was an hourly part-time employee.
She had brought her camera and her laptop along with the other traditional beach attire, on the trip. The room window opened up to the deserted beach. She had been told there was only four guests on the island. Two men and another women. She had seen one of the men from her window. He was very muscle bond. She had dreamed, and snapped a few pictures. The other two seemed to be keeping hidden. She wondered if maybe they were a couple.
Dinner she had gone solo. The drinks, of fruit and tequilla, had relaxed her. The red sky filled her camera.
The next morning she entered the beach to find herself face to face with the poser. He was in a bathingsuit and flipflops. His name was David he was an investment banker. She was speechless. He guessed that she was a photographer, and so she went with that. After they ate the eggs and bacon from the buffet, he invited her to take some photos of him working out. She accepted. She honestly felt totally overwelmed and out of her league. She got pictures of him doing situps , pushups, planks, and of course jogging. After about a hour she had had enough. She sort of now needed a woman model to pair with him. This was her first shot of advertizing travel photos. She looked around the beach and saw a young man drawing her. Her heart serged. She said hi. He smiled. She looked over his shoulder at the drawing. He actually made her look excited and attractive . His name was Tim and he too was an investment banker. She asked if his wife was an investment banker as well. He laughed , and looked startled. "What wife" "The woman who came with David and you." "Oh, Maria, she is David's current lover." "I have never seen her with him." "She'll be here any minute, she saw you hanging out with him and is prepping herself to fight for him."
Maria looked like a goddess as she ran across the beach. Not many women could have offered much competition.
Tim offered her the drawing he had made of her. He asked her if she would like to walk with him on the beach. He said he could only take so much of Maria. It had been a sort of last minute thing that he had come on the trip. David got some investment discount if he came along.
After the walk, Tim showed her some of his drawings, and they talked and had a few drinks. He had wanted to go into advertising, but he had connections in banking. He worked in New York, he had a condo in the city. She was slightly embarrassed. She was both out of her league and in her league. He then did what noone else that day had done, he asked her name. "Donna" she responded. Donna felt as if he could really see her.
Donna couldn't help wondering if she was the only one in awe. Was he seeing in her , what she was seeing in him?
Tim and David were not there for the full week. Donna felt a hole in her heart when he left. She had given him her businesscard, but she had no expectations. Four young men where there for the rest of her stay, but she stayed on her own. Chatting just enough to be polite over breakfast and dinner. Donna looked over her photos, she had gotten a few of Tim. but she had vivid memories of him in her memory.
A week after returning home, she recieved a package in the mail. It was a framed drawing of her drawn and signed by Tim. She sent him a photo she had taken of him. She also included her phone number. A week later he called. She smiled. He seemed to be seeing in her, what she was seeing in him.
