All about MISSION IMPOSSIBLE film series:

I'm a huge fan of the Mission: Impossible series and could go on and on about each film for hours. These movies never fail to keep me on the edge of my seat, whether it's the heart-pounding action moments or the complex plot twists. In this essay, I'll go over each movie in the series, emphasising some of my favourite scenes and discussing what makes each one special.

Mission: Impossible (1996)

The first Mission: Impossible film introduced us to the world of Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) and the Impossible Mission Force (IMF), a team of elite operatives who take on top-secret assignments around the globe. Directed by Brian De Palma, the movie follows Hunt as he tries to clear his name after he is framed for a mission gone wrong.

One of my favorite scenes in the film is the famous wire-hanging sequence in the CIA headquarters. As Hunt dangles from a wire, attempting to retrieve a computer file, he is nearly caught by a team of agents who enter the room unexpectedly. The tension in this scene is palpable, and it showcases both Cruise's physical prowess and the film's masterful use of suspense.

Mission: Impossible II (2000)

Directed by John Woo, Mission: Impossible II took the franchise in a different direction, placing a greater emphasis on action and visual spectacle. This time, Hunt is tasked with stopping a rogue IMF agent who plans to unleash a deadly virus on the world.

While the film is not without its flaws, it does contain some thrilling set-pieces. My favorite moment in the movie is the motorcycle chase sequence, which sees Hunt racing through the streets of Sydney while pursued by a team of enemy agents. The stunts in this scene are truly jaw-dropping, and it is a testament to Cruise's commitment to the role that he performed many of them himself.

Mission: Impossible III (2006)

J.J. Abrams took the helm for the third installment of the franchise, and he brought a fresh energy and style to the series. This time, Hunt is forced out of retirement when a former protégé is kidnapped by a dangerous arms dealer.

One of the standout moments in Mission: Impossible III is the explosive bridge ambush sequence. As Hunt and his team attempt to rescue their captive colleague, they are ambushed by a group of heavily armed mercenaries. Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol (2011)

Ghost Protocol is widely regarded as one of the best entries in the Mission: Impossible franchise, and it's not hard to see why. Directed by Brad Bird, the film features some of the most memorable action sequences in the entire series.

My favorite scene in Ghost Protocol is the Burj Khalifa climb, which sees Hunt scaling the tallest building in the world using only a pair of gloves and a grappling hook. The sequence is both vertigo-inducing and exhilarating, and it perfectly encapsulates the sheer audacity of the Mission: Impossible franchise.

Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation (2015)

Rogue Nation marked the return of writer-director Christopher McQuarrie, who had previously worked with Cruise on the film Jack Reacher. The movie sees Hunt and his team taking on a shadowy organization known as the Syndicate, and it features some of the most impressive action scenes in the series.

One of my favorite moments in Rogue Nation is the underwater heist sequence, which sees Hunt and his team infiltrating a high-security facility through a submerged waterway. The scene is a masterclass in tension-building, and it showcases McQuarrie's skill at crafting complex, multi-layered action sequences.

Mission: Impossible - Fallout (2018)

Fallout is arguably the most ambitious Mission: Impossible film to date. McQuarrie returned to direct once again, and the movie features some of the most jaw-dropping stunts and action sequences in the entire franchise.

My favorite scene in Fallout is the HALO jump, which sees Hunt and his team jumping from a military aircraft at 25,000 feet in the air. The sequence was filmed in one continuous take, and it required Cruise to perform the jump multiple times in order to get the shot just right. The end result is a truly stunning piece of cinema, and it's a testament to Cruise's commitment to making these films as thrilling and immersive as possible.
