Addison the Littlest Angel

The connection between Mother and Child

There once was a little angel named Addison.

She was smaller than all the other cherubim children. Sometimes, however, her delicately small angel wings couldn’t keep up. Instead she would lie on her favorite soft cloud and watch all the people on Jesus’ green Earth.

One day as she laid on her cotton like cloud in her favorite white dress, she spied a group of children playing in a meadow. She often saw children playing but today there was a beautiful woman in a white lace dress watching them intently.

All of a sudden one of the children, a bubbly young boy, took a nasty tumble and began to cry loudly. This made Addison very sad for the boy.

Then the beautiful woman came running to him and held him close to her. Almost instantly he stopped crying and was smiling once again.

This sight made Addison perfectly happy, but full of questions. Who was this woman, and how did she make that boy stop crying? I need to talk to Jesus about this. With that final thought she fluttered away as fast as her little angel wings would take her.

After flying to His simple cottage home and not seeing Him there, she decided to dash away to His garden.

His garden was the most beautiful Addison had ever seen! All the gardens on Earth were nothing compared to Jesus’ stunning one in heaven. The roses smelt sweeter, and the beds of daffodils looked more like beds of gold swaying in the cool breeze. Addison wished she could just sit and enjoy the flower’s company but her heart had too many questions that couldn’t wait to be answered.

She finally found Him tending the apple trees.

“Hello Addison.” Jesus said warmly not looking up to see who had fluttered by.

“How did you know it was me Lord?” Addison asked smiling. Jesus turned around and returned the smile and gave her a big hug.

“It was a lucky guess.” He said with a wink. “What can I help you with my child?”

He stood up from kneeling in front of Addison and walked to one of the granite benches. Jesus beckoned Addison to sit next to Him to explain her plight.

“Lord I have a question about someone I saw today.” She began to say. Jesus sat silently watching her intently as she continued. “Well there was this boy and he got hurt playing in the meadow. Then a woman came to him and was able to soothe him. Who was this woman, and how was she able to do that so easily?” Jesus looked down upon Addison’s perplexed face and smiled warmly at her question. He gave her another big hug and began to give her an answer.

“My dear Addison, what you saw was a mother and her child.” Jesus said calmly. He could see the confusion in her eyes so he continued. “When I send angels to Earth, I make sure that they will be protected and taken care of. In order to do that I give them a mother.”

Addison repeated the word ‘mother’ in her mind feeling absolutely warm at the thought of a mother. Jesus continued,

“A mother will love you as much as I do, and protect you till her dying breath, like I did.” Addison stared into Jesus’ shining brown eyes.

“Do you have a mother?” She asked.

“Yes I do.” He said proudly smiling. “She’ll be back from her visit to Earth later.”

“Will I get a mother?” Addison asked.

“Yes you will.” He moved a stray brown curl from her face. Addison was extremely happy with that response.

Feeling satisfied, she kissed His cheek and quickly flew back to her fluffy white cloud to look for a mother.

Addison saw many mothers from her cloud. But then she spied a woman surrounded by many loud and fun loving people. She was absolutely beautiful! She had long, black hair, which looked like the waves that crashed on the shore. Her smile was bright and full of happiness. Addison thought her laugh sounded better than all the angels singing in heaven. She watched this woman for awhile and decided that she wanted her to be her mother. After all the people had left however, the beautiful woman was suddenly alone, and the woman’s smile had faded away. Addison decided that she never wanted this woman to be alone again and swiftly went to find Jesus.

“Lord? Lord? Where are you? I need you!” Addison called out all over heaven.

“Addison what is the matter?” She whirled around and saw Jesus in his brilliantly white tunic surrounded by a halo of light. Addison ran up to Him and clutched his tunic tightly.

“Lord I have found the woman I want to be my mother!” She exclaimed, trying to catch her breath.

“Show her to me.” He said and Addison hastily grabbed His hand and led Him to her cloud. She pointed toward the spot and showed Him the woman. “That one Lord, I want her to be my mother.” Addison was very excited and couldn’t contain her happiness. But when she looked up to see Jesus’ face He did not look happy.

“That woman is not ready to have an angel in her life. Besides I was going to give her three other angels in a few years.” Sudden sadness overwhelmed her.

“But Lord, she is beautiful, and lonely! I don’t like it when she is lonely. I would keep her company and love her as much as she will love me! Maybe even more! I can help her with the other angels and bring her closer to You. I know she is supposed to protect me but I want to protect her! Please, I choose her to be my mother.” Addison was crying now, so she buried her head in Jesus’ tunic.

Jesus understood her plight, because He once chose his mother from a million other women on Earth. So He bent down and kissed little Addison on the forehead, and whispered in her ear.

“You have chosen a wonderful mother my littlest angel. The both of you will make a great pair.”

When Addison opened her eyes, she was no longer in heaven on her cloud next to Jesus, but in the arms of that beautiful woman she chose to be her mother as her new baby.

Addison and the woman locked eyes and instantly there was a bond formed more powerful than any fusion a scientist could create. They both laid in the hospital bed, memorizing every feature on each others face.

“I love you my littlest angel.” Said the woman as she raised Addison to kiss her. Feeling perfectly safe and loved in the woman’s arms, Addison closed her eyes and fell asleep thanking Jesus for giving her, her mother.
