Travelling by herself was much easier than travelling with two young companions who couldn't be trusted to do anything but complain without her harrying them along.

Perhaps she would become lonely eventually, but for now, she enjoyed the respite. The twins were no longer her problem... until she found a way home and had to explain their absence. Perhaps she should go and look for them. after all. She'd feel bad about it if she didn't... eventually.

The internal debate was solved for her at the next town she came to, where all anyone could talk about was the two curiosities that had been brought in by the equivalent of a travelling freakshow.

"At least they're being kept under lock and key!" (she didn't question how she could understand the language they spoke - a deep hood and a mask made for excellent disguise) "They won't escape to make trouble!"

Escape, no.

Be stolen... that was another story.

Anyone who made a career of childcare soon became an expert lockpicker. The lock on the twins' cage was no exception. Someone with less patience than her had drugged them. (Understandable)

She hoisted one over her shoulders and vanished into the night.
