164 — How Love Came to Be

For Wednesday, June 12, Day 164 of the 2024 Story-a-Day Challenge

Love as a hermaphrodite being of any types of two beings.

FROM THE BOOK OF PRIMUS

Chapter 1: Verses 1-19

In the beginning of all things, there was Primus, -a, -um, the Original Being, the whole universe. There was nothing that wasn't Primus-a-um.

Primus-a-um felt completeness and perfect finality, yet these were dull. There was no satisfaction. No actuation. No fun. For Primus-a-um, Being was boring. His spirit went unchallenged.

There must be more!

This Original Being realized that, although all things were final, there were two ways of thinking about them. How could that be? Was there something unfinished?

Conflict excited the Being, and it thought new thoughts that had never been, before. This stunned him when the Original Being derived Conclusion:

Primus-a-um sundered itself into two beings--one for each of two ways to think about things.

There were two.

When the cleaved beings regarded each other, they saw persons different from how they felt each to be.

They discovered Different.

They approached each other. Different, but the same, was what attracted them. It was East meets West; night meets day. It was an approach-and-retreat, the Moon circling the Earth, always falling toward it but never catching it. Lured-in evolved into locked-in.

And the beings called this Dance.

As they danced, they realized they were traveling, but in place: different-in-singularity. They felt comfort in camaraderie, but something else happened.

Feeling: they were blindsided by a new thing called Wonder. And Amazement.

The two beings feared being without the other, longing to tighten their Dance. That the Moon should catch the Earth--wondrous! Amazing! In them was Longing for each other.

Longing turned into interception; the longing to be together recapitulated the unification of the Original Being: re-unification.

The two beings interacted, interlaced, interwove, and interdigitated. Parts complemented other parts. Tabs and slots found purchase, physically expressing the sentiments arising. There came upon them Union:

Ecstasy, fulfillment, and actuation. A précis, a monument. Union obviated self-indulgence, instead obtaining--as raison d'être.

The Original Being, Primus-a-um, knew that it is the longing of two beings for each other that is godlike--this longing for two beings, to reunify the god in them, being Love.

And that it was written that Love came to be. And Primus-a-um saw that it was good.

Some people like to play with Winona's Big Brown Beaver, but some people just come to the conclusion that, after all, "My Name Is Mud". It can't be helped, and, in any event, even where there is only one, love remains... Well-wrought!

  • I try my best to stay away from love. It's like a wonderful poison, lol. Loved your story

This is definitely original and mind blowing, Gerard! And what are we to make of these divergences which demand convergence? Reason and unreasoning, being and nonbeing, desire and disinterest, Opticon and Decepticon? Wait … what?😳

And that's how love is. A dance, opposites attracting, yet finding that there are similarities. Well said.

  • Love is our longing for the absolute, for godlike feeling. So beautiful! My favorite: "Union obviated self-indulgence, instead obtaining--as raison d'être."
