As soon as same-sex marriages became legal, many couples ran to make their relationships official. Many had been in relationships for years, but couldn't wait to finally be able to say that they were married. However, that doesn't mean that it worked out for them. Many same-sex marriages end in divorce, which can quickly become complicated.

Here are some tips for those who are getting divorced.

Never go through this alone. You need to hire an experienced divorce lawyer to help you get through this difficult time. You are going to need someone who is willing to fight for you to make sure that your settlement is fair for everyone.

If you are able, you should consider mediation. Divorce mediation can be a simpler way when it comes to getting divorced. Instead of fighting in court, you and your ex can sit down with one mediation lawyer to figure out how you are going to divide your assets. It is often cheaper and quicker, allowing you to move on with your life sooner.

Think about your children's needs. If you have children that you have adopted in your marriage, you need to think about what is best for them.

When deciding who they should live with and when, you need to think about what is going to work for everyone. You may want your children all week long, but if you work sixty-hour weeks, you may not be able to care for them during the week.

This also involves child support. If you are required to pay, make sure that you financially support your children. If they are used to a certain lifestyle, you should make sure that they can still live that way.

Find a way to co-parent together. Even when you are divorced, you are going to be in each other's lives for your children. It makes it a lot better if you find a new way to spend time together.

If you don't want to miss out on holidays and other special occasions, you are going to have to find a way to get along with each other. This way, you both can spend as much time with your children as possible.

Don't be afraid to get help. If you are really struggling after your divorce, you may want to talk to a therapist. He or she may be able to help you cope with all of your feelings as you go through your divorce.

Always remember that you are not a failure. Many people feel like they have failed when their marriage is over. However, your life isn't over. In fact, you may find someone that makes you happy. You may even decide to marry again!

If you are facing a divorce, the truth is that you should never go through this alone. You need a lawyer who is going to fight for you and what you deserve. That being said, you may also want to consider mediation. Not only is it cheaper, it is often quicker. You might be able to move on sooner than you ever imagined.

If you have children, you need to really think about them. They deserve to have both of their parents in their lives, so you need to find a way to work together. It is better if you can get along. You may want to spend holidays and special occasions together, as a family, even if you are broken.

That being said, you also need to take care of yourself. You may want to talk to a therapist to help you cope with everything that is going on. It may also help you realize that you didn't fail. You still have a good life ahead of you!
