The Lonely Hostel Boy

A Tale of Grief and Purpose

By Musadiq JuttPublished about a year ago 3 min read

Once there was a boy named Rahul who lived in a small town in India. His parents were farmers and struggled to make ends meet. When Rahul turned 18, he decided to move to the city to pursue his dreams of becoming a successful businessman.

With limited resources, Rahul had no choice but to stay in a hostel. The hostel was located in a crowded and noisy area of the city. The room he shared with four other boys was small and dingy. The walls were peeling, and the windows were broken, letting in the cold winter air.

Despite the uncomfortable living conditions, Rahul was determined to make the most of his situation. He spent most of his time studying and working odd jobs to pay for his education. However, he soon discovered that life in the hostel was not easy.

Rahul was constantly bullied by his roommates, who made fun of him for his small-town background and lack of sophistication. They would steal his belongings and make noise late into the night, preventing him from getting a good night's sleep.

Over time, Rahul became increasingly isolated and depressed. He missed his family and friends back home and longed for the simple life he had left behind. He found it hard to focus on his studies and often felt overwhelmed by the pressures of city life.

One day, Rahul received a call from his father, who told him that his mother had fallen ill and that they needed him to come home. Rahul was devastated to hear the news and decided to return home immediately. However, he soon discovered that his problems were far from over.

When he reached home, Rahul found that his mother's condition was much worse than he had imagined. She had been diagnosed with a rare and incurable disease, and the doctors had given her only a few months to live. Rahul was heartbroken and felt helpless as he watched his mother's condition deteriorate.

As the days passed, Rahul's mother's health continued to worsen. He spent most of his time caring for her, while his father worked on the farm. Rahul was torn between his responsibilities at home and his dreams of success in the city.

Despite his best efforts, Rahul's mother passed away a few months later. He was devastated and felt like he had lost everything. He was unable to concentrate on his studies and dropped out of college.

Rahul returned to the hostel, but his roommates had no sympathy for him. They continued to bully him, and he found it hard to cope with the constant harassment. Rahul's mental health deteriorated, and he began to suffer from anxiety and depression.

One day, Rahul could no longer take the bullying and decided to leave the hostel. He moved into a small apartment and started working as a waiter at a local restaurant. Although the pay was low, he was able to support himself and his father.

Years went by, and Rahul's life continued to be a struggle. He never forgot his mother's death and the pain he had experienced. However, he learned to live with his grief and found solace in helping others.

Rahul started volunteering at a local hospice, where he provided emotional support to patients and their families. He also started a small business selling handmade crafts and used the profits to support the hospice.

Despite the hardships he had faced, Rahul had found a sense of purpose in his life. He had learned that success was not just about money or status but about making a positive impact on the world.
