Is it fact or merely fiction? Fact or Fiction explores the myths and beliefs we hold about our family dynamics, traditions, and if there's such thing as a 'perfect family.'
Warm Memories
A lady laughed at me today after she asked me what I was eating. I politely said, “I’m eating a bologna and cheese sandwich.” She answered back saying, “You couldn’t afford to get ham or turkey?” I said, “I can afford WHAT THE HELL I want, I CHOSE to eat that.” Before I thought about it, I commenced to explain to her in a very irritated attitude that there was absolutely nothing wrong with eating bologna and cheese. She took those words, turned and walked away.

Arianna Finds Her Magic
Dorig Once upon a time, there was a magical world called Dorig. The people who lived on Dorig were special; they lived on magic. They ate, slept, and breathed it. Magic made rainbows in the sky and brightened the dimmest of days. It sang with the Elvin and laughed with the Dandyfairies.

Parentified
Chapter I of II It is quiet. So quiet I can hear myself breathing. Inhale, exhale. Inhale, exhale. How funny that the body does this on its own. Wrapped up to my chin in my warm, winter coat, I look at the digital clock in my car. 8:45 p.m. The numbers had read "8:25 p.m." when I'd first pulled up to my house, parking on the street in front where there is a space between two mounds of snow just big enough for my car to fit. I know that the time is wrong--an hour too fast since daylight savings ended--but that doesn't change the fact that I've been sitting in the driver's seat for twenty minutes, car parked and engine still running.

Baba
He doesn’t have to count before he clacks the black chips from one triangle to another on the tavla – or backgammon – board. I try not to count myself, but often get it wrong. We have an unspoken deal that he can move my pieces backward or forward to correct my mistakes at any time. Today, though, it doesn’t seem to matter much, as my father-in-law is absentmindedly beating me soundly.
