Would you like easier ways to get your kids to help around the house—without resorting to bribery?

It’s a dilemma that’s been around since there have been chores, and kids with very little interest in doing them.

Here are a few steps to try with your kids.

How do you, as a parent, convince your children to help out with the household chores?

One school of thought, and perhaps the path of least resistance, is to simply pay your kids an allowance for doing a number of chores each week.

For example you can pay your child one dollar if he or she helped you with washing dishes or gardening stuff etc.

This accomplishes a couple of goals. It gets some of the housework done, and it allows parents to give their children spending money.

It may be a handy way to keep the kids from coming to you for money during the week for each and everything they want to buy.

This can also teach children the importance of money. They may start saving money because of the fact that now they know that one has to work to earn the money. They will start realizing the importance of money.

One downside to this line of thinking is that your child may expect to be paid for doing things that could be considered a responsibility of being part of a working family.

Another negative for a teenager is that they may feel a need to get a part time job that supplies them with more spending cash.

This could take valuable time away from homework or other worthwhile school activities.

Some experts suggest a combination of these ideas. Create a list of basic chores that a child is expected to do as part of their participation in the family.

These chores include filling the dish of the pet you have with food, making their own bed, giving father a glass of water when they come home from the office etc.

Create a separate “extra credit” list of chores that can be done for spending money once their school obligations are met.

These chores may include washing dishes, cleaning up the table, dusting, putting their toys on their place, do basic gardening stuffs etc.

When you give your child chores to do, you should keep in mind a few things:

Give them clear instructions:

Give your child clear instructions, for example when you give your child chores like washing dishes then you should tell them clearly what they should do first, or else they can mess up things.

While giving chores like cleaning a non-electric water purifier, give they step by step instructions.

Same goes with other stuff like for example gardening stuff, which can be dangerous if they are not provided with clear and specific instruction.

Give chores according to age:

You should also give chores to your children according to their age. For example don't give chores like washing laundry, or doing dishes to very small children.

You should also make sure that children are consuming sufficient food and drinking sufficient water.

Make sure that they are drinking pure water, purified by top water filter.

Don't strive for perfection:

Also you should not strive for perfection. Especially when the children are doing any chores for the first time. You should not expect perfection from them. They are going to make mistakes, and it is a very natural thing.

Be consistent:

Other thing is you should be consistent. When you are consistent, then and only then, can children learn to do their jobs properly.

This will also help to form a habit, or else it will be very difficult for them to do the chores. If you are not consistent then children will find basic tasks like doing dishes a monumental task.

This situation can be easily avoided if you are just consistent about giving chores to your children consistently.

To maintain consistency you should create a Chore Chart. This chart should contain various chores that your children should do at a specific time for a specific day of the week.

For example the task which requires a lot of time and effort, these tasks should be shifted to Sundays.

Basic tasks like washing dishes can be done on every week day.

You shouldn't be strict about the deadlines and the chore chart. You should maintain some flexibility.

No matter which method you use, almost everyone agrees that you must have reasonable and attainable expectations.

Consider what chores your children are realistically capable of performing, and don’t load them down with so much work that they revolt!
