Priceless Treasure

Mom & son

By Jagatheesh MPublished about a year ago 3 min read

We all know the love that mothers have for their children, even if they can be strict at times. They are always willing to sacrifice everything for our happiness and well-being. Unfortunately, we often take this love and sacrifice for granted, just as Kevin did in this story. But when he finally learned the truth about his mother, he couldn't help but regret not appreciating her sooner. Let's take a moment to reflect on the love of mothers and learn from Kevin's mistakes.

Kevin was a young student who had a difficult relationship with his mother. She had lost an eye, and Kevin couldn't help but feel embarrassed by her appearance. He was ashamed to have her visit his school, and he wished to be wealthy when he grew up. His mother, on the other hand, worked hard to make ends meet, running a small plant shop at a flea market. Despite her hard work, Kevin couldn't shake his disdain for their humble living conditions.

When Kevin's school announced a Parent's Day event, Kevin didn't want his mother to come due to the embarrassment he might experience from his friends. He chose not to invite her. But his mother found out about the event when she read Kevin's school diary while preparing his lunch. Thinking he had forgotten to invite her, she decided to surprise him by showing up with his favorite snack.

Kevin was furious when he saw his mother arrive at school, uninvited. His friends laughed and made cruel comments about her appearance, calling her a "one-eyed monster" and saying she looked funny. Kevin ran away in tears, and when they returned home, he berated his mother, telling her that she was an embarrassment and that he never wanted her to come to school. He said she was the worst mother ever.

Kevin's mother didn't say a word in response to his outburst. She went to the kitchen and quietly cried as she prepared dinner. Kevin came in for a glass of water and saw her crying but didn't offer any comfort. Despite feeling guilty for his behavior, he was determined to study hard and leave her behind for a better future.

As the years went by, Kevin became a successful student and a wealthy man. He moved to a different city and built a large house for himself and his new family, cutting all ties with his mother and never mentioning her to his wife and children. One day, his mother came to visit him, but he pretended not to know her and treated her like a stranger, turning her away. Though she walked away with a smile, she said nothing. Kevin was ashamed of his past behavior, but it was too late to make amends.

A few days later, Kevin received an invitation to a school reunion via email. He decided to bring his family along to meet his friends, while secretly hoping his mother wouldn't make an appearance after their last uncomfortable encounter. Unfortunately, his daughter lost her earrings at the party and caused a commotion over it. Feeling guilty over his daughter's disappointment, Kevin set out to purchase new earrings for her. During his errand, he happened to pass by his old house and, filled with curiosity, decided to step inside. Though he found no trace of his mother, he did stumble upon her diary, which she had frequently filled with her thoughts and musings. After all these years, Kevin finally had the opportunity to read its contents.

As Kevin flipped through the pages of his mother's diary, he was shattered to discover that she had, in fact, donated her own eye to him after he lost his in an accident during his childhood. Her journal entries were filled with her dreams and aspirations for him, as well as moments when he had misbehaved and treated her poorly. Each time she wrote, "I forgive you, my son, I know you love me and I love you a lot." Her final words in the diary read, "Kevin, I wanted to see you as a rich and successful man living with a happy family before I die." Kevin read through the last entry in his mother's diary, with tears streaming down his face. She had written, "The doctor said my days were numbered. I wasn't sure if you would come down with your family at the reunion and even if you did, whether you would bring them to our house. For one last time, I forgive you, my son." Kevin couldn't help but feel consumed by regret and remorse for the way he had treated his mother.

However, it was too late for him to make amends……
