Nick's Adventures

As Nick began rummaging through his late grandfather’s belongings, he came across one thing that would change his life before he knew it. While flipping through it, he noticed a few things in it that didn’t make much sense to him. It talked about walking through tall grass to the mountain that cries. From there to the bottomless pond to the monsters' mouth. Once there needing ignite the seeing light to find the path of the gods.

Nick needed to figure out what his grandfather’s book meant so he took it to his grandmother, unfortunately she knew nothing about it. The next person was his mom, who said it was something her dad had been working on since she was a little girl. Being that he found the book, it was his now and so he decided to keep it. He'd continue to look through the book and came across a map of different places that were described in previous pages. He not only was left puzzled, but spent years trying to figure out what it all meant.

As the years went by, Nick was able to decipher some of the black books' mysterious wording. The tall grass meant a jungle, mountain that cries was a giant waterfall. Bottomless pond was about the ocean and the monsters' mouth was an under water cave. The seeing light was obviously a torch and the path of the gods was a walk way to whatever was the destination. Nick spent years on this only to be stumped on one simple thing. He needed to figure out the starting point and where to go from there.

Nick figured out that the jungle he had to start at first was the Amazon Rainforest. Once there he followed the path on the map he pieced together leading to the next clue. While Nick was traversing through the jungle he began new maps for each location based on what was already in the book, however he wouldn’t know where to go next until he reached the end of each area. Throughout the entire trek, narrowly sending himself to his death, Nick never gave up on finding out what the book was leading him to. After a few days in the Amazon, Nick Finally found his next destination, Angel Falls in Venezuela.

Once he reached Venezuela, Nick did the same as before and followed the trail to find out the next destination. Once he reached Angel Falls he found, etched into rock which read; 35.185619 Latitude -79.402672 Longitude. Now that he found that out he needed to figure out where the coordinates lead from. After some research he found out that he has to leave from Caracas and head north. Nick got the diving equipment needed along with extra gear for the trip and got on to the boat he bought years prior and that he took to Venezuela.

After a long voyage, Nick and his party finally arrived at the coordinates and began getting ready for the dive. After a few hours Nick found the under water cave opening and went in. He and two others reached the other end of the opening and turned on their flashlights and looked around before getting out of the water. The three searched the area for about 20 minutes before Nick found the torch, which was a few feet away from where he was originally just wasn’t able to see it unless he was closer due to rock formations that blocked any light. Once he ignited a flame and lit the torch one of his men elected to remain behind to keep an eye on their gear.

Throughout the entire walk Nick and the other crew member discussed what is now his inheritance from his late grandfather. The two trekked through tight areas, climbing down ledges, all the while growing closer and building a friendship. The two had conversations in the past, but not this deep of conversations and for not this long. One of the topics of the conversations was what could be at the other end of the journey they are on. Nick said no matter what it is, it’s still treasure and is valuable.

They finally approached the end after what seemed like a day when it was just a couple hours from the entrance. The closer they got the more Nick began to realize the opening was big enough for him to squeeze through alone. He put down everything except his flashlight, which was kept on his belt, and the torch. Nick also took a hammer and crowbar just to be on the safe side should he need either. One thing his grandfather always told him before he died was to be prepared for anything life threw at him and he took that to heart.

It took Nick only less than a minute to squeeze through the opening and get to the other side. Once there he looked around and found something to ignite using the torch and he did just that. As the area began to flood with light from the growing flame, something caught his attention. In a corner, barely visible at the moment but the shape wasn’t going to take that long to figure out. The trunk that his late grandfather owned while Nick was growing up, some of the marks gave it away.

The initials on one side of it gave it away, G.M.T. (George Michael Thompson). It wasn’t the initials that gave it away, but the way they looked as they was in the form used to etch into the siding, it was in his grandfather’s hand writing. Nick opened the trunk and saw it filled with gold coins, a few family photos through the years and other personal affects such as his grandfathers’ pocket watch that has his grandparents wedding photo. Excited would hardly describe the feeling he had right now as he looked at the now treasure trunk. In it he found an envelope with his name on it.

“Nick, if your reading this then I am gone and wanted to leave you something. As you got older, you have shown interest in my studies so I figured I’d leave you this little treasure hunt you’ve always dreamed about. The gold in this chest is yours, in contains a total into the millions of U.S. currency that I discovered and pieced together over the years. While it wasn’t easy, your finding of this like your birth makes it worth it. I trust you will do the right thing in enjoying it. I love you always my little adventurer. Love always

He couldn’t believe it, after all this time his grandfather managed to not only do this but to do it all in secret was astonishing. Nick managed to get the chest out and back on the boat, which wasn’t an easy task, luckily he had the necessary equipment on board to get it up. He would then spend the remainder of his life honoring his grandfather not only with his inheritance but also going on adventures with his new crew and split evenly between each member. As for the gold he was left, it wound up being $250,000,000 and most of it he invested and helped out his family and friends. No body asked for Nick’s help or anything, but Nick wanted to give back and help them for helping him on this journey.
