A female, brindle, stray Pitbull dog was being fed by all the locals. Daily she walked the streets and made her rounds. Most of the locals had nick-named her Lucy. At night, she would sleep by the Snoball shop near the beach, under the awning. She was a very friendly and likable dog.

As she walked down the road on this particular day, she could smell something awful coming from a house, then she heard a baby crying from upstairs. The closer she got to the house, the stronger the smell became. She ran up to the brown door and scratched at it until it finally popped open. A wall of thick, dark, smoke hit her in the face like a wall. She crouched down, crawling and checking rooms looking for the crying baby.

The first room to the right, a woman laid in the bed unaware of what was going on. Lucy grabbed her by the bottom of her dress and pulled her out of the bed. The woman didn't wake up when she hit the floor nor when her head bounced off each step going downstairs. Lucy had to grab her dress from different angles to make it outside with her. Finally, after several tries, Lucy got the woman to the grass, in front of the house to safety.

The baby's cries were getting weaker, but she was still couching from the smoke. Lucy made her way back upstairs, having to crouch almost to the floor to breathe. The infant was in the next room across from the woman's. Lucy saw the baby's crib and jumped in with the baby. She was able to get a better grip on the baby's pajamas just behind the neck and jumped out of the crib. Trying not to hurt the crying infant, Lucy took it easy going down the stairs. When she reached the bottom, a beam from the ceiling fell against the door blocking her only way out. Lucy eventually found a broken window from the beam and fire. She was able to squeeze the small infant through the broken windowpane and dropped the baby to the ground. Lucy wasn't able to fit through the window and couldn't find another way out. The smoke was so thick it made it harder for Lucy to breathe. She was able to get a little fresh air by sticking her snout out of the broken windowpane and barking for help.

Outside, a fire truck pulled up. As the firemen began getting set up, one fireman realized it was his wife laying on the ground. He rushed to her side with an oxygen tank. While tending to her he noticed his daughter by the side of the house, under a window. No one could hear the dog barking from all the noise.

Once the woman came to, she asked her husband, "how did I get out here?"

"I don't know my love."

"Where's Ally?" Her head fell to the side, and she saw the dog's snout in the window. "Rescue that dog!" She pointed above the baby.

Her husband ran over to their child and broke the window with his protective gear, enough for the dog to escape after he picked up their child. Once the dog jumped out of the window, Lucy collapsed. Everyone thought she was dead. A fireman gave her oxygen to revive her.

Once the fire was almost out and the house burnt to the ground, the woman realised that the dog had saved their lives. All involved were okay including Lucy.

One of the firemen recognized Lucy as the town stray. They took her back to the fire department and kept her as a mascot. She began riding in the fire truck and became the husband's partner. They adopted Lucy, got her tags and chipped.

Lucy enjoyed her new way of life, getting to save people that the firemen weren't able to get to. She had countless saves when she finally retired from the fire department. After retirement, Lucy moved in with the woman and her family for the rest of her days.
