The living, the dead and the process of healing.
We can't always remember events from our childhood, sometimes we remember certain events and everything else is a blur. For me, there is one event from my childhood that I will always remember. The sort of event that doesn't fade with time and doesn't get blurred out in the background, it's ever-present. It happened when I was around 4 years old. I remember there was tension in my home, although the reason for it was unknown for me I knew that it was present just like a delicate mist. We were living in an apartment building on the fourth floor. I remember sitting on the balcony with a pair of binoculars looking out in the distance for my mother. After a while, she would appear in my line of vision and I would follow her with the binoculars right up until she would reach the staircase. Everyday she had the same look on her face. a deep and dark look that was marked by exhaustion and worry. Back then I didn't know what was going on, it seemed strange but I was young and my capacity of understanding such complex feelings was very limited.

Adultery
In June 2018, I learnt that my father had gotten himself a girlfriend, whilst still living with my mother and I. He proudly admitted to it during one argument, and then continued to go out with his new lady, spend the night at her house and even engage in sexual activities whilst still being married to my mother. He kept stating that he wasn't cheating or having an affair, but couldn't give an answer to what he was doing. Almost 2 years later he still think what he did was the best decision he ever made, and can't see the error in his ways. We luckily had access to his social media and could monitor the conversations between him and this woman, I know it was very out of order, but it meant we could use the messages to see if his stories were true or not. We had the ability to track his lies and excuses, who he really went to meet when he went out on Tuesday nights "I'll tell my wife i'm meeting Bill". I also found messages he had sent to other women, not sure if he dated these women too, or if they were just pictures that they had sent him. He made me and my mum the enemies, he lied to his girlfriend about conversations that never happened, making, my mother especially, look horrible, mean, disgusting, etc.

Liberated Voice
I stand by the Maori proverb that says, “My success is not mine alone, it is that of the collective”. This quote helps me remember that as I grow, I am not alone, there are countless other women and ancestors that have paved my way. I decided on the process on February 2017, after I returned from my holiday in Africa, where of course, I went to see Karim and my friends. I don't know how people usually do it, but for me, it wasn't a decision from one day to another, it was definitely something that grew in me for more than 1 year.

Chapter II: Home, as it was. She didn’t immediately recognize where she was when she woke up. The place seemed unfamiliar, strange. With sleep still in her eyes, Iliana sat up in her childhood room with the bright yellow walls and the keyboard by the door. She loved that keyboard. It had 88 keys and hundreds of instruments programmed into it, but Iliana usually kept it on the grand piano setting. Playing music had gotten her though the roughest of times. This morning, she had an almost unbearable urge to play.
