Located in the Yangtze River Delta, Wuxi is an industrial city. The city is not much of a tourist destination compared to cities like Hangzhou and Shanghai, but there’s much to see. If you’ve been enticed by the mountains, the lakes, the caves, and the historical and cultural attractions of this amazing city and want to visit, you should understand how the transport system works here. Wuxi has an excellent transport network, and there are several ways to get around.

Location

Wuxi is located in East China in Southern Jiangsu Province. The city is bordered by some of the major Chinese cities like Suzhou, Taizhou, Huzhou, and Changzhou. Wuxi is about 130 KM from Shanghai and about 200 KM from Nanjing.

Wuxi isn’t the most visited destination in China, but a good number of tourists and businesspeople find the city to their taste. So, there’s a wide range of accommodation options available, including the likes of Ascott New District Wuxi. You can find a variety of hotels here, but furnished apartments in Wuxi are all the rage these days.

Getting here

You can get here by high-speed train or flight. There are regular trains connecting Wuxi with other major Chinese cities, and Wuxi Airport has been administering flights from places like Macau, Hong Kong, and Singapore.

You can also take the bus; there are many long-distance buses. Alternatively, you can hire a taxi to get here, which is the easiest way to travel inland, but it’s also the most expensive.

Getting around

Getting around the city is quite easy thanks to the extensive transport network facilitated by flights, trains, buses, and taxis.

Train

Wuxi has four railway stations: East Railway Station, Wuxi Railway Station, Huishan Railway Station, and New District Railway Station. To take the normal train, you should go to Wuxi Railway Station, and the other three railway stations only operate bullet trains.

Long distances buses

Right opposite Wuxi Railway Station is Long-Distance Coach Station, where you can catch long-distance buses. This is also the only station serviced by coaches that run to major cities surrounding Wuxi. To make things easy for passengers, there’s a Central Coach Station located next to the main railway station. This makes transitioning from coach to train easy and less time-consuming – if you follow the footbridge, you can get to the railway station from the coach station within a few minutes.

Metro

Taking the metro is an excellent way to get around; it’s fast and convenient. There are three metro lines at present: Line 1, Line 2, and Line 3.

Line 1 is the link between the southern and northern suburbs, and Line 2 runs to Meiyuan Kaiyuan Temple Station from Anzhen Station. Line 3, on the other hand, stretches over 18 kilometres between Sunan Shuofang Airport and Sumiao.

City bus

There are about 250 bus lines, which means you can take the bus anywhere you want to go. Most buses are available from 5 AM to 9 PM, and some even run until midnight. Before you make your travel plans for the day, checking the bus schedule is advised. The bus fare is calculated according to the distance and the type of bus service. Air-conditioned buses, for instance, charge a higher fare.

Taxis

If you want privacy and comfort, you should consider taking a taxi. There are about 3,000 taxis in operation every day, so finding a taxi is no challenge. Every taxi has a metre and charges by distance. When getting off the taxi, make sure you ask the driver for the receipt.

It’s also worth noting that some taxi drivers aren’t willing to travel long distances. In this case, you might have to hire a private car; this is something your hotel can help you with.
