"Elvis" is a fascinating biopic that tells the story of Elvis Presley's rise to fame through the eyes of his manager, Colonel Tom Parker. The film takes place against the backdrop of significant social change in America during the 1950s and 60s.

Despite Colonel Parker's role as the "villain" of the story, Tom Hanks delivers a standout performance, portraying the complex and manipulative manager who profited greatly from Elvis' success. However, it is Austin Butler who steals the show with his perfect portrayal of Elvis, capturing the star's charisma, energy, and mannerisms with ease.

Director Baz Luhrmann brings his signature style to the film, using a mix of modern and old music, eccentric visuals, and unique filming techniques in the first half of the movie. While the second half of the film is more toned down in terms of style, the overall production design and costume design remain impressive throughout.

The film is a brilliant tribute to Elvis' legacy, showcasing his musical talent and personal struggles. The story is entertaining, and the music is a highlight, featuring classic hits that will please Elvis fans and newcomers alike.

Austin Butler delivers a standout performance as Elvis in this biopic, which covers the legendary musician's life from childhood to his untimely death. The film's non-chronological approach, using flashbacks to highlight key moments in Elvis' life, adds a unique element to the storytelling.

The portrayal of Elvis' early years and the complex relationship with his parents provide an intriguing backdrop to the start of his career. The film sheds light on the controversy surrounding Elvis' suggestive dancing and the impact it had on society and modernization.

The performances in the film are exceptional, with mesmerizing renditions of classic hits such as "Hound Dog" and "Suspicious Minds". Austin Butler's portrayal of Elvis is uncanny, making it feel like you are watching the real thing.

As the story progresses, it becomes apparent how Elvis was held back by his manipulative manager, Colonel Tom Parker (superbly played by Tom Hanks). It's heartbreaking to see how Elvis' talent was wasted, and how he was unable to pursue his passion for touring Europe and acting in serious films.

While the entire cast delivers exceptional performances, it's Tom Hanks who truly shines and elevates the movie to another level, surpassing all other biopics of Elvis.

The film portrays the shared quest of a middle-aged opportunist, a master schemer, and a naturally talented young Southern performer, during a time of segregation and pre-Civil Rights era. Elvis famously said, "I don't sing like nobody", and the movie captures his unique talent and spirit.

Their quest for the 'impossible dream' of achieving success and happiness leads them down a path that ultimately leaves them unable to grasp the happiness they desired. Despite this, both Elvis and Colonel Tom Parker changed the world and left a lasting musical legacy that will continue to endure for generations.

While the movie could have been titled "Elvis and The Colonel", the decision to simply name it "Elvis" is fitting. It perfectly captures the essence of the film and its focus on the iconic musician's life and impact.

I found that some editing would have made the movie more enjoyable to watch. The focus on Colonel Tom Parker's schemes was excessive and took away from the appeal of Elvis and his music. While there were some excellent scenes portraying Elvis' childhood and his time on Beale Street, the film became bogged down in the details of the Colonel's deceitful actions.

By the end of the movie, I feel sorry for Elvis. Overall, the movie is worth watching, but I would recommend viewing it on video so that one can fast forward through the slower parts.

Overall, this biopic is a must-watch for anyone interested in Elvis' life and legacy. The performances are outstanding, the music is captivating, and the story is both fascinating and heartbreaking.
